Default News from the front that shouldn't be ignored

I routinely do this on a few different forums. I'll collect links for stories regarding the good work our troops are involved in, and then post them in a running thread. I do this on my forum, and a few others. So - I thought I'd start one here, and hopefully keep adding to it, like I usually do elsewhere.

Here's the first batch:

INDIRECT FIRE ATTACKS DECREASE IN IRAQ

COALITION FORCES DISRUPT AL-QAEDA NETWORKS; ONE KILLED, 14 DETAINED

IRAQI FORCES, U.S. SPECIAL FORCES DETAIN TWO EXTREMISTS IN AS SA’DIYAH

No problem SVTman! I think it's important to balance the daily bad news we hear, with this good news....because the mainstream media isn't going to do it.

Good to see that the surge is working in Iraq, though to the media's credit, I have heard several times about how violence in Iraq has decreased a lot, hell today I heard that violence decreased 55% and I've been hearing that violence has been lowest in a long time. So to their credit, they have given this some attention, though probably not as much as they should have.

I'm not sure if I have ever quoted an article from the NY Times in a positive light, but if even THEY say things are improving, well, gosh, it MUST be true.

Baghdad Starts to Exhale as Security Improve

Quote:
BAGHDAD, Nov. 19 — Five months ago, Suhaila al-Aasan lived in an oxygen tank factory with her husband and two sons, convinced that they would never go back to their apartment in Dora, a middle-class neighborhood in southern Baghdad.

Today she is home again, cooking by a sunlit window, sleeping beneath her favorite wedding picture. And yet, she and her family are remarkably alone. The half-dozen other apartments in her building echo with emptiness and, on most days, Iraqi soldiers are the only neighbors she sees.

“I feel happy,” she said, standing in her bedroom, between a flowered bedspread and a bullet hole in the wall. “But my happiness is not complete. We need more people to come back. We need more people to feel safe.”

Mrs. Aasan, 45, a Shiite librarian with an easy laugh, is living at the far end of Baghdad’s tentative recovery. She is one of many Iraqis who in recent weeks have begun to test where they can go and what they can do when fear no longer controls their every move. ..
But it is the NY Times after all, so they are obliged to point out more evil still (and the usual healthy dose of rehashing old evils) happening just to keep their readers from seizing up.

ya i liked the whole thing about the bullet hole and flowers. no matter how good it is they are going to make it sound somewhat bad. they will never be satisfied.
