both were started as a military solution to a political problem. in this sense, they are very similar. and the military is not likely to be any more successful in solving iraqs political problems than they were solving vietnams.

there might be more of an effort in applying political solutions to iraq this time. that might mean the quagmire will not last so long.

We had a compelling national security issue at stake in invading Afghanistan and taking the Al Qaeda leadership out of action and ending a safe haven for terrorists. Iraq represents MISSION DRIFT.

Actually, it was Bush and Cheney cutting and running on the original mission, hijacking it and taking it into Iraq.

Nam was about some silly dominoe theory about Asia. It is too bad that the old men that had all the theories didn't fight their own damned wars.

LBJ lied about the Gulf of Tonkin (staged) incident and Bush flat out lied his butt off.
