I would rather another 9/11. It probably won't.

The fact that they can monitor or even charge you with a crime without you being notified is just flat out wrong.

Does anyone else find it odd that an enemy combatant has been granted constitutional rights but REAL American citizens are being watched with no probable cause?
We live in difficult times which requires extraordinary measures. Honest, law abiding people won't find this intrusive, only the terrorists will.

You would rather have another 911 incident rather than support legislation which could very well prevent such an incident?

Well, fortunately your in the minority.

Then peeping toms are okay right? We have laws for a reason, trying to sift through thousands of peoples e-mails, phone calls, text messages is not going to garnish a damn thing. This is just flat out lazy *** police work.

Cops are not allowed to enter your home for no reason right? They are not allowed to read your snail mail on a whim right?

Its a ****ing joke when enemy combatants have constitutional rights where full blooded American like myself does not even have an expectation of privacy any more.

We have laws for a reason, when we make dramatic changes to our daily lives then they win. That is the whole goal of Terrorism. It is to instill fear and make us abandon the very things we believe in, abandon those things that people have fought and some times died for.

I am just tired of this "if you are not doing any thing wrong then you have nothing to worry about" argument. This kind of thinking is what enables police to enter your home because someone thought you where maybe doing something illegal at some point in the distant past. It leads to people being detained because they maybe talked to someone that did something bad. I am really glad that the House and Senate really stepped up to the plate on this one! Great work guys, we can all sleep better at night know that we are getting bent over, for our protection mind you!!!!

Cool

I'm still waiting for an answer to my question:
Quote:
Exactly how will this violation of the Constitution save anything?

So please explain how removing accountability and the requirement to show probable cause increases our protection. I'd like to hear your rationale.

We seem to have ended up with three threads on the same topic:

House easily passes compromise surveillance law - Political Fever - The Political Debate Forums

FISA cockroaches - Political Fever - The Political Debate Forums

Lawmakers Reach Deal To Expand Surveillance - Political Fever - The Political Debate Forums

Anyone want to have all three merged for on bigger discussion?

You mean the terrorists that target us for interfering in the internal affairs of Middle Eastern nations?

To paraphrase one of the founding fathers (who may have gotten it from someone else), if you're stupid enough to give up liberty for a little so-called "security," you don't deserve to have either one!

"Why?" asks the confused waiter, as the panda makes toward the exit. The panda produces a badly punctuated wildlife manual and tosses it over his shoulder.

"I'm a panda," he says at the door. "Look it up."

The waiter turns to the relevant entry and, sure enough, finds an explanation.

"Panda. Large black-and-white bear-like mammal, native to China. Eats, shoots and leaves."
