Saying "Merry Christmas" around the time of the federal holiday called "Christmas" is being polite.

A panda walks into a cafe. He orders a sandwich, eats it, then draws a gun and fires two shots in the air. "Why?" asks the confused waiter, as the panda makes toward the exit. The panda produces a badly punctuated wildlife manual and tosses it over his shoulder. "I'm a panda," he says at the door. "Look it up." The waiter turns to the relevant entry and, sure enough, finds an explanation. "Panda. Large black-and-white bear-like mammal, native to China. Eats, shoots and leaves." |

Are there even any real people who have actually gotten upset about others saying Merry Christmas to them?
Political correctness is taking politeness so far that it not only loses its sincerity, but it becomes more of a chore and a hindrance than a consideration for other people who are present when speaking. If somebody wants to say Merry Christmas, let them say Merry Christmas. They're not pressuring me into saying it; they're not forcing their religion anywhere; they're not trying to sell me anything through harassment - just some kind words, usually said in departure. What's the problem, then? I mean, if they were trying to insult me or maybe, as I mentioned, trying to sell me something or scam me somehow, I could see banning it to remove the real threat or offense. But this? Ladies and gentlemen - you are no longer allowed to exchange kindly words of holiday cheer this season - it's not politically correct. What a joke. |

The whole issue is overblown. There is no one forcing anyone to say Merry Christmas or otherwise. If you want to say it, go ahead. No one's stopping you. There is no War on Christmas or secular progressive liberal attack. It's all in their head.
I say happy holidays or merry Christmas, depending on my mood and if I feel like combining both holidays (New Years, Christmas, etc).

I have Never met someone who got offended by having someone wish them a merry Christmas. I don't think the war on Christmas exists. Bill-O and some of his nut ball friends took some isolated incidents and turned them in to more then they were.
