Default The Rick Warren Cult brings McCain and Obama Together

I couldn't bring myself to actually watch this event. Here's the NPR story announcing it: Pastor Rick Warren Brings McCain, Obama Together : NPR

Political candidates have no business speaking in churches and churches have no business inviting political candidates to give presentations.

"Why?" asks the confused waiter, as the panda makes toward the exit. The panda produces a badly punctuated wildlife manual and tosses it over his shoulder.

"I'm a panda," he says at the door. "Look it up."

The waiter turns to the relevant entry and, sure enough, finds an explanation.

"Panda. Large black-and-white bear-like mammal, native to China. Eats, shoots and leaves."

A huge televised event over the weekend and no one wants to touch it?

Why the hell not? The members of the church are voters and are aloud to recieve a speech by the candidates.

But the Church itself is a 501(c)(3) organization. There are IRS regulations that prohibit certain kinds of political activity by churches. Besides, the liberals love to argue how there is supposed to be all this separation of Church and State (unless it's a black church endorsing a Democrat, then it's okay).

It's full of voters, so the candidates should be allowed to speak with those voters.

Absolutely not! History has shown what happens when Church and State get in bed with each other - I don't want that repeated here, thank you very much!

Sorry, but church goers have full rights, including voting rights, whether you like it or not.

CHURCHES don't, given their tax-exempt status and the privileges afforded them as apolitical, SPIRITUAL entities.

Church-goers have rights, and they can feel free and in fact encouraged to exercise them.......in political parties, at rallies, in their backyards, but NOT AS A CHURCH. This is not a theocracy, and we don't want it to be one. Evangelicals elected GW in 2004, do we want that to happen again?

Should it become a theocracy, then I'll be joining you at your place to commence armed resistance.

But Zeph, you support gun control, the cops would have your weapons in a matter of seconds.

This country is moving dangerously close to a theocracy. "Well Obama is a muslim." "McCain cheated on his wife". Why the hell are our candidates going to a faith-based circle-jerk in the first place? Why haven't the American voters (other than myself) demanded that they both be sat down together, and forced to answer questions from the Libertarian and Green Party candidates? Why can't we have a serious policy discussion in this country?
