Default 2 kinds of Christians

Okay there are actually more than 2 kinds but I believe that they break down into these two catagories.

1) Those that believe that you can worship God in any way that you choose and that God still loves each and everyone of you.

And...

2) Those that believe that their God is the only God and anyone that doesn't worship him in the way that they do are phonies.

I know my share of both (I'll be honest most are #1), but I just want to share with you some of the #2's that I know.

My wife used to go to a "#2" church (that kind that makes those kind of believers), but we now go to a "#1" church.

This is a quote from her exboyfriend (that she really hates now). He wrote this in a blog on myspace.

"Okay, so I figure that I should share this with the world, or myspace...either one...I don't have to, but I want to. This is a list compiled between God and I, consisting of qualaties that He wants me to look for in a young woman, and that I desire in a young woman. It's not in order of importance, I just started writing.

~She must be a Christian

~She must be filled with the Holy Spirit

~She must be in love with God more than anything or anyone.

~She must put God first in any relationship, including family.

~She must be patient (especially with me lol).

~She must be trusting, as well as trust worthy.

~She must be active in and open to the things of God.

~She must love her family.

~She absolutely must be a virgin.

~She must be honest and open (no dramatical fits(ask if you must)).

~She must be active in the Word of God.

~She must be compassionate.

Now, most of these are pretty basic, but it is all very, very important, not only to me."

He followed this blog with...

"There are so many things that don't matter when you are in love, true love. The way to tell that it's true love: A willingness to look past the mistakes that were/are made...Without that willingness, you are not in love. By holding those mistakes against someone, you are proving that you have not/are not forgiving them. True love is based on forgiveness, as well as repentance. For me, true love is based on the Word of God, but that may not be the same for everyone. God is the perfect example of true love."

Yet he says that one of the most important things is that she is a virgin! Anyway, he has little room to talk about sexual abstinance .

But all I can say is that he never mentioned the importance of age, so I hope his perfect woman is 80 years old (wonder if that will have an impact on his "love")!

Anyway, for those that think that these types of christians are the more common kind. In my area (the Portland Metro Area), type #1 outweighs type #2 by about 10 to 1 (based on church sizes, and I can't picture many #2's not going to a church).

Here's two more for you:
1. The Christians that thank god for getting them the Oscar. As if God really cares about who is a better actor.
2. The Christians that try to shove their God doctrine down your throat. Similiar to what the Seventh Day Adventest do, minus the bicycle.

I've always thought of Christians as being one of THESE two types:

1. Those who actually try to emulate Christ and follow his teachings, and
2. The hypocrites.

I'm not a Christian, and like Michael, I believe in an all-inclusive God who loves all her children no matter what.

The hard thing that I find with the first on that is that 2 people can view Christ's teachings as two entirely different things and walk away from it in very different manners and so become completely different christians.

That's kind of funny. I am a Christian, but don't really believe in God.

Just what we need, a Christian-bashing thread!

Of course, if it were an atheist-bashing thread it would be shut down.

"I'm a panda," he says at the door. "Look it up."

The waiter turns to the relevant entry and, sure enough, finds an explanation.

"Panda. Large black-and-white bear-like mammal, native to China. Eats, shoots and leaves."

Not really. There are different types of christians, and different people worship in different ways.

We all know about those that protest at the funerals of dead soldiers. Yet there are also christians that actually try to help and try to make this world a better place. These two "christians" act and treat others very differently. So it's not about bashing christians, but pointing out that there are some that are hypocritical about it. There are those that I'm ashamed that they call themselves christians, because they give the entire religion a bad name. There are only 3 options to deal with this (4 if you include do nothing)

1) Agree and support all those that call themselves christians, regardless of actions. "United we stand" kind of thing.

2) Seperate from them and say that they are not the same christians that we are and do not share the same views.

3) Find a different religion

I'm a Christian.

I agree with the O.P.

The only reason you would find it "bashing" is if you self-identify with one of the less-attractively described 'types.'
