This woman was forced by fear to cover her head, but still attempts to bring the "pretty things" which women love into her attire by choosing appealing colours. It is not empowering, it is oppressive IMO.

That is part of the conservative backlash to western influence in the region. That isn't the way that Islam has to be at all. Most Muslims are not even Arabs and do not live in the Middle East.

Most western converts to Islam are women, and they do convert because they feel that Islam empowers them.
