Default Why shouldn't Christians and Jews support slavery?

Explain why a Christian who gets their morality from these texts should not support slavery.

Because the texts are inconsistent and there is plenty of arguments against slavery from other parts of the Bible.

Support the claim that there is inconsistency between the two text as it pertains to slavery, along with any biblical arguments against slavery that are contained in the bible.

No.

:p

I'd love to, but honestly, I'm already pulling an all nighter to write a paper, and this sort of thing is distraction, so I can't be bothered to put in any work at all. I will just say that anyone who thinks that Jesus' rhetoric is consistent with slavery is due for a re-read of the gospels.

It really depends on the individual Christian and what part of the Bible he or she reads and/or follows. The Bible is open to interpretation. If you take the Bible literally, you will have missed the meaning.

If you read ALL the bible.

If the bible is open to interpretation what interpretation is needed to deny slavery, that does not ignore pro slavery portions of the bible?

The point is, the Bible is inconsistent.

Wouldn't it be easier to just put down the bible, or any other book, and rely on common sense? How about empathy as a value? Also, slavery could be a metaphor for many other things. Once again, it is how it is interpreted.

Don't follow a book, follow your heart.
