To say they want people to live life there own way gives anyone with deviant morals the chance to do what they want. If we don't have a basic set of social morals then we are not a Culture or a society we are just a bunch of animals running around doing what ever we want. that doesn't mean we should force everyone to live by a set of religious morals but it does mean we don't let people abuse their fellow man. that includes people taking advantage of the system to gain wealth at the expense of the rest of the society. Only the naive or foolish would think that all human beings have the best interests of their fellow man in mind when they make decisions and if there is no law to force them to then there will be only more pain and suffering.

They want to make the Federal Government so small that it would have no real power to protect the people of this nation from corruption. They want everything on a state by state basis. We tried that it was called the Articles of Confederation and it did not work. When the companies we need to regulate are bigger then many states it is not possible for the individual states to regulate them. For instance the profits that many Oil companies make is greater then the gross state profit of most states. We are a nation not just a collection of individual states and if we don't live and work like a nation we wont be one for long. Can we find some common ground,? Yes, I don't like all that the federal government does and I would like to see unnecessary bureaucracy removed but I don't want to see necessary bureaucracy removed becuase some people don't like paying taxes.

You still haven't explained how you would regulate giant national and international corporations if you have so little power in the Federal government.
I don't think I have it wrong when I say they don't want to pay taxes. I think all the altruistic motives in the world are just formal ethics meaning that what you want us to believe but when you look at the effect the kinds of changes you would implement would have they end up coming down to less taxes and less regulation.

Just because lower taxes are a result does not mean that they are a motive. Many liberals support increaseing social programs, that results in increasing taxes, that doesn't mean that they want to pay higher taxes or that higher taxes were their goal.
The government is the finally power, regardless of what powers it has. If there are laws on the books that prevent monopolies from forming and anti-trust laws, than the companies have to follow those. The number of laws and the amount of money going into the federal government is not an indicator of it's depth power, but an indicator of it's breadth control.

We all feel that way, we just have a different list of what we think the government should or shouldn't do, there's is just a short list.

Democrats are the only ones in the last 30 years to have balanced the budget.
A government has no power if it has nothing to back it up. We can pay for social programs without raising taxes we just need to stop spending billions everyday to build other nations at the expense of ours.

Libertarians would agree that we should stop spending in other countries, because that is what their government should do, not ours.
