To a degree.

My Dad was an active Scottish Nationalist, which coloured my views, but my mother was a Labour Party supporter. We were encouraged to be politically aware and to make our own judgements. Growing up, my own instincts were toward the Liberal Party!

There were regular heated debates in which we (brother, sister and I) were encouraged to participate. It was always good-humoured, but they were both passionate in their beliefs and although she was madly in love with him, my mother voted Labour despite his best efforts to sway her

It wasn't always easy, for example my father preferred us to speak broad Scots. Whereas my mother considered our economic progression more important and encouraged polite speech...in the end we use both. Broad Scots is considered a different language from English, most of us use it at home but use English at work, so it's not that confusing.

Now, I listen to the policies and vote for the party whose policies best fill the needs of my country as I perceive them. This can change at any time...

Honestly I am not sure. As I grew up my parents did not talk to me about politics. We discussed the ideas and who was running for what. They helped me understand the process and why it is all important but they never told me what there stance was on issues. I am actually very great full for that. I grew up looking at the topic not what party was on what side.

Much of my family is very non-political. If I had to rate their ability for political discourse on a rating from one to ten, I would give them a 2. At a dinner table the only thing they talk about is themselves and are sadly very ignorant of things outside their immediate lives and the current family drama. Their attitude is "I can't do anything about it so why even talk about it." I had to learn about history and politics on my own. The only person I can talk about politics with is my Mom. So NO would be the answer to the topic.

Grandparents are liberal. Parents are center-right. I am very conservative.

Grandparents were socially liberal (though not to extent that I am) and economically conservative. Both parents are economically conservative, though my father is a bit more socially conservative than I am. Then again, old men generally hate everything not from 1965, so take it with a grain of salt I guess.

I would say that my parents are considerably farther right than I am, but in American politics that isn't saying much. The reality is more likely that I am just on the liberal side of moderate and they are just on the conservative side of moderate. Very little difference on the grand scale.

My mom is strongly Republican, but I only agree with her on some things. I think my political views are most influenced by Robert Heinlein. ;)

My parents were staunch Republicans, my father once said "If you ever vote Democratic, I'll disown you!"
I am a Centrist and have never voted for a Republican in a national or statewide election.
I didn't speak to my father for the last 18 years of his life.

Both my parents are Democrats, but my dad seems to be a little more conservative on social issues. I can recall some pretty racist/homophobic remarks he's made in the past. My mom's the same to some extent.

But I guess that paved the way for me to be really liberal.

My family relies on me to direct them in political matters.
