Default Thoughts on InBev's purchase of Anheuser-Busch

So, what do you all think of the purchase?

Stab through the heart, another loss of Americana, and a horrible sign of things to come? How do we feel about these companies as quintessentially American, and do companies like A/B deserve special protection? Should we prop them up (subsidize) if they begin to fail? Is it no big deal: money talks, patriotism walks?

I have no idea how I feel about it, personally. On the one hand, I don't really care, because nothing's really going to change (and I don't drink Bud, anyway.....), but, I think this trend of "allowing" things to slip out of here is kind of disturbing, too.

I don't sense any real agitation from it, other than a few country singers getting all bent. Maybe it's isn't a big deal, and people who proudly drink what I think is horrible beer out of some odd sense of patriotism are kinda loony?

I don't like any of their beers so I pretty much don't care. I hope they change the recipe and make a beer that taste decent.

Is Michelob a A/B product? If so, I do like Amber Bock, but that is pretty much it.

As far as bailing them out goes, I would certainly hope not. When you become a publicly traded corporation you run this risk. Besides that, I don't think the government should subsidize businesses. They should be allowed to succeed, fail, or be bought out without government interference.

A-B sells Michelob (light, ultra, etc.), Bud, Busch, O'Douls, Rolling Rock, Natural Ice/Light, 180 energy drinks, and probably some others. They also own a partial stake in the companies that make Corona and Tsingtao.

This isn't new...South African Breweries bought out Miller Brewing (to create SAB-Miller) about 5 years ago.

Maybe they'll make it taste like something other than piss.

Does this mean the McCains have a HUGE influx of cash after the sale?

Cindy is the Bud heiress after all.....

I guess the McCain's are all for sending US jobs overseas.

They won't send any jobs overseas. The beers will still be made in the US. Nice try tho.

Ugh. Why do we let cool things go overseas, and keep swill like Buttwiper here in the US?

O'Doul's? Is that the non alcoholic stuff? Then what's the pint boyo? Michelob is supposed to be their best, and it is still a light beer. I would be more interested in Bush with some quality European brews brought over to the US. Their highest alcohol content beer is High Gravity (if you are impatient in getting your buzz).

So, does this mean Cindy McCain will no longer be a beer heiress?

"Why?" asks the confused waiter, as the panda makes toward the exit. The panda produces a badly punctuated wildlife manual and tosses it over his shoulder.

"I'm a panda," he says at the door. "Look it up."

The waiter turns to the relevant entry and, sure enough, finds an explanation.

"Panda. Large black-and-white bear-like mammal, native to China. Eats, shoots and leaves."
