I am not sure what can be done about it. I know a few people that have done it. They say they did it because the physical pain took away from the emotional pain. The only thing I can think of is too try and make them happy. A very hard thing to do sometimes though.

This is an awesome topic. I've watched a few good MTV type documentaries about it, but I haven't read anything written. I look forward to what people have to say. I'm gonna read a bit on it before I make a judgment.

They need to seek counseling. That is about it, instead of booze, drugs, sex etc they simply cut themselves for whatever reason. Some do it to offset emotional pain, others do it so they feel something at all. Just another way to deal with problems in the wrong way.

Ya counseling is probably a good idea.

I could make a Maddox-style remark with something like "Cut across the jugular, not the wrist," and I would in real life, let it be known.

However, asinine remarks aside, counseling and such are what are needed.

There is a quote: "Whenever someone says 'There oughta be a law,' there probably shouldn't." So it shouldn't be outlawed or anything like that, because it's not up to the government to regulate personal behavior. However, people who cut do need help.

Yes I agree there. Law do not have a place in this.

I'm sure that it could, especially if the person just started or is only thinking about starting. However, counseling can't really hurt; seeing a trained psychologist in this scenario is better for the same reason seeing a doctor for a gash is better than sewing it up yourself.
