i have read another sci fi story where the colonists had a mission to seed human life on every planet they found. some planets this was not possible due to the environments there, so they genetically engineered humans into something..... else that would be able to survive. the space ship then left, to their next destination, leaving the colonists behind without any memories of their origin to survive as best they could. wierd story, but interesting concepts.

We know that would end up leading to some weird religions. Imagine what would happen if we lived on a planet that we knew did not have evolution to creat us. That actually might make for a very interesting series of books.
