depends on to what degree? I personally look down on it until it is the very last and only option left. But I have had disagreements with people about when that point is to happen. I have debates where people say that it is needed because peaceful methods don't work, but what they really mean is that the peaceful methods don't work well enough or quick enough for their tastes.

Seeing, as the "yes" answer is in "some cases" that means that there is a point where it is acceptible. I think that everyone would agree that at some point it it acceptible, the only debate is where is the line.

I do not agree with Vigilante behavior but I cant promise that if I had a daughter and she was raped that I wouldn't resort to it if nothing else was working.

Define what you mean. Do you mean tracking someone down and doing a citizen's arrest? Do you mean dragging someone from a car when they hit and run? Do you mean gunning them down instead of letting the police take care of it?

By my definition I mean being the police when the real ones aren't available.

Depends. Does it mean tackling somebody who is running away with an old lady's purse? or does it mean assembling a group of your fellow citizenry, finding, trying, and executing a "criminal" in the street?

There wasn't a "mostly no" option, so I took "no". Generally speaking, people taking the law into their own hands is a step backward for a functional society.
Catching is okay, depending. No lethal force, no unilateral Final Justice.
