Default Oil combustion engines

Here is my thought. We got internal combustion engines (ICE) running on gas, diesel, and now french fry oils. When we take a 42 gallon barrel of oil and refine it down to gasoline, we get right 19.5 gallons of gas.

So why not just pour the 42 gallons of crude oil into the oil burning engine, thus doubling your oil mileage? If we can burn vegetable oils, we can burn crude vegetation oils just the same. This invention would cut our oil consumption in half. Geterrr done!

A barrel contains 42 gallons. After refining, it makes about 19.5 gallons
of gasoline in addition to numerous other products such as heating oil..

If you can get to the web,
Petroleum.org
has many interesting numbers related to your question.

In the Pacific Northwest, a Caterpillar 3406E electronic diesel, running on a fuel derived from used french fry oil, has powered a Kenworth Class 8 truck operated by J. R. Simplot for nearly 200,000 trouble-free miles.

The truck is part of a two-year, three-phase biodiesel test and development program conducted by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) to study several forms of vegetable

oil and animal fat as potential replacements for diesel fuel in diesel-powered trucks and equipment. Participants include the Energy Division of Idaho's Department of Water Resources, Caterpillar Engine Division, Kenworth, J. R. Simplot, the University of California-Davis and the University of Idaho.

In Phase One, engineers at Caterpillar Engine Division's Mossville, Ill., plant conducted break-in, line and emission testing on a production line 1997 Cat 3406E truck engine rated 435 hp, running on biodiesel. In the Phase Two over-the-road test, now nearing completion, the DOE has monitored an identical 3406E in a Simplot 1997 T-600 Kenworth running on similar biodiesel fuel formulated from "yellow grease" - used french fry oil. The truck is in daily, high-mileage, 96,000 lb. highway tanker service for Simplot in western Idaho. The firm operates 60 Class 8 trucks out of its Caldwell, Id., plant, including other tankers powered by diesel-fueled 3406E engines.

Biodiesel may be the definitive green fuel. It is derived from low value agricultural products, is non-toxic, rapidly degradable and as a combustion-ignited fuel, low in regulated emissions. Many agricultural products, including hydrogenated soy oil used to cook french fries, contain the fatty acid ethyl esters that are the energy component of biodiesel.

My first thought is octane rating and how clean or dirty the emissions would be.

I would have to look up the specifics of how that could be done. When Dr Diesel himself first showcased his new engine at a world's fair, he ran it on oil. And the problem with biodiesel (running on vegetable oil) is there is no realistic way to apply it nationwide, plus vehicles need to be retrofitted with two tanks (the engine needs to warm up on diesel and then get switched over to vegetable oil). The waste oil itself needs to be filtered.

They are producing biofuel from algae now with DAILY harvests. They still need to develop this option to the point of cost effectiveness. However, they are making advances fast. The first greenhouse operation looked like a zig zagging thick plastic bag material, very long tube. What they have now resembles venetian blinds with numerous panels coasted with green ooze. The first method is horizontal and wasted vertical space. The second method is horizontal and vertical and much more efficient.

And the concept is to hook up these algae green houses to traditional electricity power plant emissions. The carbon dioxide rich emissions are bad for global warming but ideal for algae growth. So it serves the purpose of cleaning up industrial emissions while also producing a biofuel.

Maybe it could be refined lightly, then recirculate the burned oil back through a few cylinders again, before being sent to the convertor to be burned, or a collection tank to be collected and used for other products. (recycled)

It just seems 41 to 19.5 in combustable volume is worth looking at for crude oil.

There are a lot of other products that are by-products of making gasoline that migh make a fuel.

Before smog test started, you could run a 16oz can of water slowly through the carburator to steam your carbon off valves and clean the plugs. A motor can take a lot of abuse and still run. WARNING READERS!!! Don't try that on these alloy engines of today or you will crack it into lil pieces.
