Default STOP SMOKING!!! Addicts welcome.

I take this smoking issue personal and important to any of you wanting to quit smoking. Hopefully this thread will move towards helping identify problems of smokers here who wish to stop, and see as a group if we cannot help solve and support our friends here.

I was a two pack a day smoker. I quit after having a heart attack and undergoing lung treatments and doses of morphine for pain. I realize my problems started after I was no longer active while going to college. Prior to that I was physically fit and taking doses of vitamins to maintain my health with my dirty habit.

I tried to quit three times. The first time I quit I made 6 months. My wife continued to smoke. While on a camping trip we were confined in a truck and the smell overwhelmed me and I started again on that same vacation.

So I learned, being exposed to second hand smoke creates an urge to make you start smoking again. It must be rough for one person to quit and their partner to continue. Both of you have to quit together & support one another.

I was hypnotized twice, and each time I made 6 months, got in areas where others were smoking at work, and started again. I also learned that you get the munches and have to watch your weight.

I would have never been able to stop smoking if it were not fo the heart attack that gave me morphine for pain and the lung treatments to cleanse my lungs. By the way, the cleansing cannot repair the damage you have done to your lungs. But your health will improve dramatically.

The lung treatments were three times a day for 7 days. You breath in from an inhaler of medication which lossens up the carbon, and it allows you to cough it up. When I started the phlem was black, moved to lighter shades of brown and by weeks end was nearly clear at the end of treatments. When you watch this process yourself over preceding days, it psychologically conditions to want to stop and not do that again to your lungs.

And I have the pain killer morphine in me for a month, so I had no nervous withdraws or urges or wishes to ever return to a cigarette. You need to take some kind of strong pain killers of some kind. There maybe something available over the internet, homepathically, or from an online drug store. Get your doctor involved and maybe he can get you something, because we are talking about ending or ectending your life here. You are killing yourself, and you know it, and so does everybody else that is around you.

If you reguarly smoked in the house you have some house cleaning to do. I scrubbed all my walls down with lysol and bleach, washed all the nicotine off from everything. My college books reaked of the brown stain and smell. Clean it all throughally, fan, central air, furniture, kitchen, car, everything - or just move to a clean house and buy a clean car. It's your life. Then stop smoking inside.

A lot of smoking is psychological I suspose, and you might want to join a support group with your other smokers in the house. Get support. If they can't quit, then make them smoke outside. wrapping a rubber band around a cigarette pack to make it difficult to pull out a cigarette and make you conscious each time you try to smoke. I would say quit cold turkey. Cutting down is still smoking. Maybe one of our psychological people here can chime in with some suggestions. I always thought a good way to break an addiction is to start another one that replaces it, but that is easier to correct. For example, if you get the urge to smoke, before you get the cigarette you have to perform some cleaning chore, or run around the block, or have sex, or shower, etc. Soemething that consumes ten minutes of your time. Make the cigarette a reward to the other and before long you will tire of the reward. Other psychologist might have different ideas.

Well, lets hear your stories of smoking, or how you managed to quit, or of any support groups or ideas you all have. After all, we are trying to save peoples lives here.

I was a three-pack-a-day smoker for almost 40 years.
I tried every method known to man to quit - nothing worked.
Three years ago I joined a drug study on aids to quit smoking.
I took Xyban and had counseling.
I haven't had a cigarette - nor a craving - since.

I highly recommend a support group/therapist and a prescription for Xyban. It worked for me like the proverbial charm.

I'm pretty sure he's already quit.

Strength from within is the only true method - for any and all habits/addictions.

I've been there - I know.

For any smoker, I would recommend the nebuliser to cough up the black carbon nicotime from your lungs. I think you could use it in conjunction with the albuterol below to get sufficient results. I am not a Doctor. I do use these products. I can tell you to read the directions and medical information carefully. You can over dose on Albuterol, so study the issue to know a good starting point in ml.s for you. It will help you breath better, sleep better, and hopefully cough the black crap from your lungs.

You may not see any benefit from this if you are physically active everyday, which seems to clean the lungs pretty good. But if your weezing, etc, it is worth a try.

Nebuliser On Ebay (or online) for under $40.00

Albuterol:Common Uses: This medicine is a bronchodilator used to treat or prevent the symptoms of asthma, emphysema, and other breathing conditions.
Albuterol prescription drugs at a discount - find a drug: compare prices - save hundreds in medications

Store: NO PRESCRIPTION International pharmacies - cheapest source no prescription online pharmacy discount drugs - overseas discount pharmacy

NOTE: I would point out to smokers, you have spent thousands of dollars getting addicted to nictotine, so any expenses you do incure are likely to be less than that. I would talk with your doctor, or get yourself a pulmonary doctor, and see what they can do for you.

I commend you for that!! Your child will love spending hours in his future with a smoke free daddy.

A calendar might be a handy item to mark each time you didn't smoke, then each day you didn't smoke. A cookie jar should be started. Put the exact amount of money you spend on cigarettes in that jar, and start thinking about some reward for yourself when you finally quit, to get yourself.
