Gangs or terrorist? Not much to work with so far.
Bomb explodes at federal courthouse in San Diego Bomb explodes at federal courthouse in San Diego - Los Angeles Times By Tony Perry, Los Angeles Times Staff Writer 12:29 PM PDT, May 4, 2008 SAN DIEGO -- A suspected pipe bomb exploded at the federal courthouse in downtown San Diego early this morning, shattering a glass entryway and damaging the lobby, authorities said. No injuries were reported. Someone placed the device outside the main entrance of the Edward J. Schwartz Federal Courthouse about 1:40 a.m., said FBI spokesman Darrell Foxworth. The explosion destroyed a glass door, blasted schrapnel into the ceiling, and punched a hole in a fifth-story window of a building across the street, he said. There was no major structural damage, he added. "It's too early to tell if it's terrorism-related," Foxworth said. "It does not appear to be right now." Investigators were reviewing film from security cameras and interviewing guards who had been on duty when the bomb went off, Foxworth said. "We have a very, very strong response," he said. He also said the bomb did not appear to be linked to any case under way at the courthouse. Streets around the building remained closed as federal agents marked the location of shrapnel and took photos. Some debris was scattered over block-long area. The courthouse is several blocks from hotels, bars and other businesses where people might have been congregating after midnight. It will reopen Monday, Foxworth said.

Sorry, but the last time I checked Timmy McVeigh was a home grown terrorist. Just like William Ayers.

I've read where the Mexican gangs control LA's courts and maybe they are branching out. But all speculation for now.

Terrorists attack civilian targets to try and use the fear to their advantage. Seems like it to me although the article doesn't mention who was responsible and what their demands are.

I wouldn't throw that off the table though, I watch these specials on Nat. Geo about how they do some of the most god-awful things ever.

And what is this "very, very strong response" the FBI had. They drove really, really fast from the donut shop where they were hanging out to the courthouse? The bomb "doesn't appear to be linked to any case underway at the courthouse."? How the hell do they know that! It exploded outside the courthouse so a reasonable person might well believe it does appear to be linked to a case either underway or that took place there! So, the bomb is not terrorism related, and it is not related to any case at the courthouse. Maybe it wasn't really a bomb? Yeah, maybe the explosion wasn't bomb related! The government typically tries to downplay these types of events to mollify the public, to prevent public panic, and to reassure the people that they are safe...government is in control, no need to worry folks. That bomb blowing up at the courthouse, that Muslim shooting up the El Al employees at LAX, the Iranian kid who ran over the kids with his SUV on the college campus while shouting "Allahu Akbar!" don't appear to be acts of terrorism, they can't be because government is in control ; when government officials make such denials government loses just that much more credibility. |

It is really really good this isn't terror related, and like the conservatives say we haven't had an incident of terror in years - so why don't we defund the Homeland security and build homes for the homeless and start feeding babies nutritous meals and funding college students? Seems Bush is always wasting the taxpayer money on some hari brained scheme or the other.
