I'd have to say though as a general comment, that posting in forums has educated me somewhat in this respect. The U.S. posters' attitude to various subjects has surprised me.

It has changed in some ways. But for the most part I still see the same old gender roles more or less placed upon children from an early age. We don't tell our children they cant become this or that. However, society in the USA just makes it more easier for girls to fall into these roles. If girls arent playing with dolls, putting on tons of make up, or thinking about boys all the time, they face scorn and ridicule from other girls. The same thing happens for boys who aren't interested in war toys and/or football. Also realize that Britain has more of a tradition of female leaders: Margaret Thatcher, Queen Elizabeth, etc. Whereas the US has primarily a long line of old white dudes with humble pie wives. Hillary is one of the few exceptions of course.
