Default PC security, Shield Deluxe 2008

I want to know what others are using for their Anti Virus protection. I had Trend Micro PC cillion but found at Cookie Parkers forum that it was following me at all sites I went to. So I asked for a refund and got it even though it was 6 months into the purchase.
I found Shield Deluxe 2007 (now upgraded to 2008, and was happy till I found it didn't do the virus scan, when I selected it to do that over a complete PC scan . And I am not sure what they mean by complete scan, is it an Anti Virus scan? No info to let me know. But what upset me more than that is when I ran my A-Square Anti Mal ware Scanner I got a Trace.Directory.Privacy.Defender.3.0 as a medium risk. I contacted the company. They told me that wasn't suppose to be part of the download and redo the install after removing the entire product. Luck me I had it installed in the C: directory. And a search found PGNs and other crap connected to it after I uninstalled it. I do have to say their Tech Support manager called me and walked me through the process. But after re downloading it and doing the re-install I still have both problems as before. bad business when a company puts a trace on the customer's PC. Now I could remove it through the Mal ware detector anytime I run the scanner. But it is always wiser first to contact the product manufacturer. I just sent them an e-mail about it and my unhappy feelings. I also told them I was going to post this information. And search for a better product.

So anyone care to share their thoughts on a better product for Anti Virus utilities. Note I don't care for all in one's utility suites. I have Sunbelts personel Firewall, SUPERAnti Spy, Spyware Guard and Spyware Blaster always updated each day a swell as used each day. Oh for the time being my Anti Virus is Shield Deluxe 2008. And also use A-Square Anti Mal, MRU Blaster, XP DustBuster, Prefetch Cleaner and Registery Tune Up.
Thank You for all shared thoughts on this thread.

I use AVG which is free. I used to use McAfee, but AVG found a worm which McAfee missed so I'm very pleased with AVG. I got it at AVG Anti-Virus and Internet Security - Welcome

I did use the Free AVG but can't find it on that site. Gotta eat as being a diabetic, my steak and potatoe and vegies are in need of my attention. Be back soon.

AVG is the way to go IMO...Every tech geek I know uses it. A lot of the mainstream (Norton, McAfee) do not do a good job protecting your computer. Many viruses, trojans, phish etc are specifically designed to creek through the Microsoft attached anti-virus shields.

Kaspersky is also a good one to use IMO. I had it for a year, but I had to pay for it unlike AVG.

This is my complaint about business today. They seem to think we pay and they play. What happened to the customer is right? Plus the e-mail was a six page print out with about 7 links to view. And after getting my $ I need to wait 2 hours to get word that I can go to where ever and download the product.
I think I should have just left clicked the continue to free. But AVG free in the past didn't catch all the virus. That is why I run so many other utilities.
And I was just at the GRC site to test my PC and the leak test said my Firewall wasn't worth sh*t so trusting GRC and the guy I went for it.
Now I can get to his website easier than get tech support. Hummmmm. Business on or off the net isn't going to change for the better that is one thing for sure.
