My son is 27. I also have a beautiful grandson who will turn 5 in December and is the light of my life. Yes, I realize I am a smitten, gushing grandma.

There is one problem with the term African-American as a substitute for the word "black".

Not all blacks are African Americans.

For example:

I've got two rubberbands who happen to have bounced back home at the same time - plus a spare we took in 5 years ago she she was 16. They are all working and saving to move out....again.

So - on that empty nest - don't get your hopes too high. I've been looking forward to it for a while. Still am, in fact.

I can see one of my girls potentially needing to come back home for a while, the younger one. She's the sort who wants to take time after high school to "find herself." I said fine, but she has to start looking in college. When she decides to come back home, too, she'll find that we've moved--I'm back to the beach come 2011 when she graduates high school...if I can pull it off that soon.

And I admire your taking in the teen, Jojo. What a cool thing to have done.
