Geez...my wife had a pair of throwing stilettos in plain sight almost every day in HS. She has also carried them into a courthouse without the security guards raising an eyebrow.

Amazing what a woman can get away with using as pins to hold up long hair, isn't it?

Why not just do it on a case by case basis? Is it really that hard? What are they getting paid for?

The School Board != government. Assuming the School Board set the rules, that means this is not a government issue.

That would probably be a local government issue. A lot of the people who approve of these rules are your average citizens on school boards. Another horay for the average person.

So the "weapon" was not on his person but in his locked car in the school parking lot. First of all it was not a weapon it was a tool used for his job, no different from scissors or a hammer. Also if this kid was 18, he can legally have a legal knife in his car for self-defense as long as it is not brought onto campus on his person.

School boards are elected by the citizens; that makes them government entities.

"Why?" asks the confused waiter, as the panda makes toward the exit. The panda produces a badly punctuated wildlife manual and tosses it over his shoulder.

"I'm a panda," he says at the door. "Look it up."

The waiter turns to the relevant entry and, sure enough, finds an explanation.

"Panda. Large black-and-white bear-like mammal, native to China. Eats, shoots and leaves."
