Rosaries - Gangland Accessory?
by RS Davis The Freedom Files ![]() Hello Freedomphiles! So, Tabitha Ruiz, a young lady in Texas, was going through the metal detector at school when security told her she had to take off her rosary. Said Ruiz: "I asked them why and they said because it's gang-related." Sr. Cpl Kevin Janse of the Dallas Police Department explained, "Lately they've been seen wearing religious jewelry such as the rosary worn by gang members, so it is a factor." Aside from the obvious religious freedom issues, do we really want gang members dictating dress codes? "Oh, it appears the gang members in our school are carrying text books and folders! Let's ban them!" Ruiz and her mother are prepared to take the school district to court, if this cannot be resolved. |

Atrocious. For that matter, they shouldn't be banning any "gang-related" items, either unless they are dangerous to others on the school grounds. I agree that schools should be allowed to weapons illegal to possess, and some that aren't, such as knives with long enough blades to be used as serious weapons. And maybe even, if there have been incidents, regular pocket knives. I stand firmly against explosives, bazookas, and rocket launchers in schools too. But stop with the clothing and jewelry already, and little swiss army knives, etc. There comes a point where its ridiculous and clothing items and jewelry (religious or otherwise) is definitely it.

This is just more idiocy in the public education system.
