I can't say I know how they do it, maybe they do have a repearter every 2 feet or so, I just know that that is what they get in information transfering speeds.

Those are backbone technologies. The chances of those ever coming to the civilian market is a very very long way off. It really is not practical in any case for a end user to have a connection that damn big. FIOS is a good step, maybe even DS5 connections would be great for the every day user.

The faster we get bigger pipes though the faster we can start streaming HD content over the internet, Netflix can start renting out HD content on there website.

Broadband Choice

Internode :: Residential :: Internet :: Home ADSL :: Extreme

It varies due to infrastructure.

How fast is ExtremeŽ ADSL2+?

Your peak download speed can be up to an incredible 24,000 kilobits per second (or 24 Megabits per second) and your peak upload speed can be up to 1,000 kilobits per second (or 1 Megabit per second).

This service is only available in selected areas and your speed will depend on the capabilities of your modem and the quality and length of your phone line, with a minimum assured bandwidth of 1500/256 kbps. Read more about ExtremeŽ ADSL2+ services here.

Compare this to conventional dialup modem speeds - which on average peak at around 45 kilobits per second download and around 31 kilobits per second upload - and you'll agree there's a big difference!
