The UK is sleepwalking into an Orwellian society. My main concern is that such legislation not only doesn't work, it is actually counter productive as 1980's Northern Ireland is testament to. Interning young muslims for lengthy periods without trial will only turn them over to terrorism. It will act as an Al Qaeda recruiting sergeant and radicalise those we should be reaching out to.

It sure does, although perhaps ironically the government also allegedly offered it's left wing back benchers an ease on Cuban sanctions for their support. Though this has not been confirmed as yet, the BBC were suggesting it in an earlier report though.

I'm obviously no fan of the Tories, but i quite like David Davis. He always seemed like a decent guy with a degree of priciples. Though i do not quite know what this will achieve other than keeping the issue in the news a little bit longer.

Trust me, I'm a socialist! ![]() There's power in a factory, power in the land, power in the hand of the worker. But it all amounts to nothing if together we don't stand, there is power in a union. The union forever defending our rights, down with the blackleg, workers unite. To our brothers and our sisters in many far off lands, there is power in a union. Money speaks for money, the devil for his own. - Billy Bragg |

On Davis i just respect him a bit more because he he has always seemed like a say what you mean and mean what you say kind of guy. Plus he is not a tory toff, he came from a very ordinary background and is a far cry from the privellaged majority of the party.

Internment?
British Government? Now theres a suprise......................Not Cant resist Armoured cars and tanks and guns Came to take away our sons But very man will stand behind The men behind the wire Through the little streets of Belfast In the dark of early morn British soldiers came a'runnin' wrecking little homes with scorn heedless of the crying children dragging fathers from their beds Beating sons while helpless mothers Watch the blood fall from their head. Best anti-internment song ever.

Exactly why you would think they would learn their lesson. It didn't work then and it wont work now.
