Well, if you allowed veterinarians to use the method then there would be lawsuits about how lethal injection on humans is cruel and unusual punishment because you're treating humans like animals.

A panda walks into a cafe. He orders a sandwich, eats it, then draws a gun and fires two shots in the air.

"Why?" asks the confused waiter, as the panda makes toward the exit. The panda produces a badly punctuated wildlife manual and tosses it over his shoulder.

"I'm a panda," he says at the door. "Look it up."

The waiter turns to the relevant entry and, sure enough, finds an explanation.

"Panda. Large black-and-white bear-like mammal, native to China. Eats, shoots and leaves."

It seems to me that if the paralyzing first drug may be administered in too small a dose, all you need to do is make sure it's a MUCH bigger dose than what they normally use, and use that dose every time. And do they have proof this happens rather than a "concern" that it might happen?

I'm still wondering why they wipe the injection site with an alcohol swab before killing the prisoner. I think the risk of infection ain't much of a concern at that point.

Geez, this is ridiculous. Forget lethal injections completely, then--bring back painless public beheadings.

I'll take the "old age" death sentence. Either that or lethal injection with a handful of downers and a bottle of Dewars about an hour before. And an Ipod filled with Zeppelin, Pink Floyd and Moody Blues.
