Just a few weeks ago, there was considerable speculation that Kim Jong-Il might be either dead or in failing health. Now, comes similar speculation about Iran's Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.
From the London Telegraph: "Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, who achieved global fame by calling the Holocaust a 'myth' and declaring that Israel should be 'wiped from the pages of history', faces re-election in June. "In the last week, however, the 52-year-old leader has missed a cabinet meeting and failed to deliver two official speeches. "A string of broken appointments from earlier in the year has also come to light. Mr Ahmadinejad, who has a reputation for being a workaholic to the point of hyperactivity, may be suffering from the strains of office." Had Dear Leader bitten the dust in North Korea, it might have caused the implosion of the DPRK government, with the resultant anarchy and chaos; and I would view that as a very good thing, from America's standpoint. However, if Ahmadinejad were suddenly removed from power in Iran (by death or any other means), the result would almost certainly be very different. Last edited by pjohns : 10-26-2008 at 02:10 PM. |

You guys do know that the position of "President" in Iran carries almost no actual power right? The Supreme Council decides all matters of diplomacy and military affairs. Thus, Ahmedinejad's health while noteworthy, is really not a que to start speculating on Iran's political future.

Notice how McCain and palin use him as an example of who Obama would talk to? HE said leadership. And That guy is about as powerful as the white house press secretary.

A panda walks into a cafe. He orders a sandwich, eats it, then draws a gun and fires two shots in the air. "Why?" asks the confused waiter, as the panda makes toward the exit. The panda produces a badly punctuated wildlife manual and tosses it over his shoulder. "I'm a panda," he says at the door. "Look it up." The waiter turns to the relevant entry and, sure enough, finds an explanation. "Panda. Large black-and-white bear-like mammal, native to China. Eats, shoots and leaves." |
