Health care disparities make world "neither stable nor secure," WHO director says
Report: 43 percent of women giving birth this year will do so without medical help Tajikistan, Sierra Leone have 40-year gap in life expectancy despite expenditures Report applauds Iran, Cuba for finding ways to improve health care (CNN) -- In a Nairobi slum, more than one in four children under 5 will die, but in a wealthier part of the Kenyan capital, the mortality rate is one in almost 67, according to a World Health Organization report released Tuesday. The World Health Report 2008 aims to spotlight disparities in health care across the globe, and as the Nairobi example illustrates, the differences exist not only between the First and Third Worlds -- they can occur just across town. WHO roundly criticizes the organization, finance and delivery of health care and calls advances in the field "deeply and unacceptably unequal, with many disadvantaged populations increasingly lagging behind or even losing ground." The report says that a citizen of a wealthy nation can live up to 40 years longer than someone in a poor country, and of the 136 million women who will give birth this year, about 58 million (43 percent) will receive no medical assistance during childbirth or the postpartum period. I feel compelled to address one section of the report:
There's nothing wrong with this. Women have been giving birth for many millennia without medical help. Childbirth is a natural process, not a medical procedure. 95% of pregnancies have no problem, so why should 100% take place in hospitals? Knowing the odds were in my favor I had a problem-free home birth.

A UN organization calling for socialist policies; imagine that! Of course the idiots at the WHO are going to call for taxpayer-funded health care for everyone. Now, if it had repudiated socialized medicine then you might have something newsworthy.
Shove your damned nanny-stater notions up your backside and keep your damned hands out of my wallet!

A panda walks into a cafe. He orders a sandwich, eats it, then draws a gun and fires two shots in the air. "Why?" asks the confused waiter, as the panda makes toward the exit. The panda produces a badly punctuated wildlife manual and tosses it over his shoulder. "I'm a panda," he says at the door. "Look it up." The waiter turns to the relevant entry and, sure enough, finds an explanation. "Panda. Large black-and-white bear-like mammal, native to China. Eats, shoots and leaves." |

Of course they are! Those idiots!!! How dare they think people should have better, more affordable healthcare and not live in filth and disease, just because they are poor! MY GOD, that's SOCIALISM!!!!!! *cute dark, evil music*. Those pathetic peon-poor people don't deserve equally good care like the rich! If they were, they would be rich! LOLZ. Free market: fapfapfapfapfapfapfapfapfap --Libertarian groupies
It's amazing that the people who actually benefit tremendously from "EVIL SOCIALISM* (cute dark music) are always the ones who viciously attack it the most and want to destroy it for others while still sucking up the benefits of it in the process. Never in my life have I seen such a pit of almost cartoonish hypocrisy than in the Libertarian demographic.

The fact that people gave birth in the past without medicine is no more reason to say it's "okay" than it is to say people lived without polio vaccines was "okay." Medical treatment is superior than no medical treatment. It saves lives. But then again, LoLbertarians don't care about saving lives do they? It's all about saving money in their personal pockets. Greed = your philosophy. Everything else is designed to hide that ultimate tenet and therefore is only tangentially related to it. You got yours and you don't want to share with anyone else who is unfortunate. Screw them if they are dying at birth.
