And they have quietly released ove 60 prisoners. And that means they were innocent of charges or they had no proof or compelling case against them. Since the whole rationale of having GITMO was to have a special prison for the worst of the worst terrorists, GITMO is failing to fulfill its designed mission. If you release over 60 people that have been imprisoned without charges and held for extended periods of time, then were tortured and received harsh treatment, you are most likely creating 60 new insurgents along with their extended families. In short, Guantanamo is creating what it was designed to address.

It is a major world wide issue effecting America's general reputation. We need to close it down and take positive steps to regain a decent reputation in the world again.

Do they teach you in those damned government schools to read INTO what people write or are you just another idiot who thinks that's how to read????

I DIDN'T SAY A DAMNED THING ABOUT THE TORTURE!!!!

Again, where the hell were this boy's parents and why was he even allowed access to a grenade?

And to think that Canadians had such a reputation for being nice people!

"I'm a panda," he says at the door. "Look it up."

The waiter turns to the relevant entry and, sure enough, finds an explanation.

"Panda. Large black-and-white bear-like mammal, native to China. Eats, shoots and leaves."

First of all, he's a child: he doesn't have freedom: he is under the sovereign rule of his parents who were seemingly absent. Second, throwing grenades (to which this BOY should never have had access) is not speech.

Again we have no proof of torture, and I accept that, but the never-ending list of allegations make it seem likely, and torture is wrong by the uS governmnet's own admission even if this boy did attack US soldiers in Afghanistan.
But you were quick to assume that there was torture going on when you falsely accused me of defending it.

It'll never happen as long as Americans keep voting for Democrats and Republicans.

Here is something to consider. His lawyers requested that all of his interrogation tapes be released and the best they could come up with is the guy lifting his shirt and showing "bruises" which I could not see. And then him crying. They did not even yell at him. Sleep deprivation is allowed under the Geneva Convention as well, so this is pretty much a non issue.

Why is it that people to not get fired up about what the opposition does? Oh wait they are not the US that's right..... I do not condone torture. But honestly people, sleep deprivation being classified as torture? Give me a break.
Freedom of speech for him to speak his allegations of torture, where some here seem to want to gag him. The torture is alleged, and I ahve recognised this at least twice, but this boy is innocent of any crime until proven guilty, I really have a problem with people assuming guilt. There are not many threads here talking of the crimes of the taliban for example because it's bleeding obvious that they are a horrible inhumane group, same with Al-qaeda, but America has pretentions of bein the "good guy", and in reality it could be.

No i wasn't, please read my previous posts and you will see I have said multiple times that the torture also is alleged.

I read your previous posts but you accused me of defending torture, which is an assumption that torture was going on.

So, an act of war (throwing a grenade at soldiers) is now nothing more than a crime?

As for reading into things, that is not how reading is done. You are supposed to read the words, understand what the words mean and understand from the combination of words what the author is saying. Your own interpretations are irrelevant. It doesn't matter what you think the words mean, it only matters what the author meant.

This is disgusting that Americans are posting as if this is all OK.

You right wingers accuse us of being unpatriotic for being against the Iraq war? Well I'm sorry to tell you but being for torturing a youth like this thread is about, is unAmerican. You torture lovers sicken me.

We should have offered him milk and cookies, and sent him on his way.
Maybe paid for a good lawyer to get the poor lad off...
A co-worker's son lost his best friend in Iraq. They entered a house and a young boy approached them. Unfortunately, his friend didnt see the grenade the kid had behind his back. Blew his buddy up with himself.
Too bad the kid didn't survive; we could have given him some milk and cookies too.
