I respect your view Sir, but the judge did throw into his full summing up that certain youths were abusive to me & it was not a case of mistaken identity.
He also said he could understand my distress at seeing criminal damage in the act to the war memorial. However, i was convicted because in England, to grab a louts collar is assault.
The judge also added that i showed a lack of control. Not strictly true. I did show enormous control or I would be in Jail.
However, the yobs would not have noticed that, what with the mortal fear they would have been in at the time on account of there only being 25 to 30 of them & just me.

I'd like to see prison reserved for more violent offenders (rapists, murderers, pedophiles, etc.) and use other forms of punishment for other crimes. In this case, I'd institute the Singaporean practice of caning (which Singapore learned from the British) followed by community service that included cleaning up the memorial in question.

Big difference between prison and jail. I think that some jail time with a hefty fine is appropriate, and I would agree that prison should be reserved for violent offenders.

I see no real difference between prison and jail - except maybe who runs it.

jails house mostly unconvinced people. Also they have more inocent people in them then prisons.
