After over six years is FARC captivity, Ingrid Betancourt, one time candidate for Colombian president is free!
The Colombian military and intelligence forces are to be commended for freeing more than a dozen hostages without resorting to force but by beating them at their own game. Trickery. Muy bien hecho! Betancourt may well stand once again for president in the next elections and may be just the person to find a way to bring the 40+ year long insurgency of the FARC to an end, hopefully through peaceful means. This success for the government of Colombia may also draw attention away from current president Uribe as he faces possible removal from office. Well I'm as happy as anyone that she is no longer a hostage but you wonder why FARC refuses to deal with the Colombian government when this kind of under-handed tactic is used?

You call this underhand? The nonviolent rescue of people who had been hostage for almost seven years? I think you should be saying, what possible motive does the Colombian government have to negotiate with people who use underhand tactics like kidnapping. Jesus Christ on an effing pogo stick.
