Default Betancourt is free!

After over six years is FARC captivity, Ingrid Betancourt, one time candidate for Colombian president is free!

The Colombian military and intelligence forces are to be commended for freeing more than a dozen hostages without resorting to force but by beating them at their own game. Trickery.

Muy bien hecho!

Betancourt may well stand once again for president in the next elections and may be just the person to find a way to bring the 40+ year long insurgency of the FARC to an end, hopefully through peaceful means.

This success for the government of Colombia may also draw attention away from current president Uribe as he faces possible removal from office.

This was a pretty clear failure for the FARC, so I'm curious to hear their take on it.

It also shows that intelligence agency's do in fact have there **** together some times. I am glad to see that they got some of those people out okay and hopefully it will discredit FARC some what.

I'm just glad it was through non violent means. That way it doesn't justify any FARC reaction. Plus, I love it when the high ground wins.

Well I'm as happy as anyone that she is no longer a hostage but you wonder why FARC refuses to deal with the Colombian government when this kind of under-handed tactic is used?

These are very good news.

Are you effeing serious?

You call this underhand? The nonviolent rescue of people who had been hostage for almost seven years?

I think you should be saying, what possible motive does the Colombian government have to negotiate with people who use underhand tactics like kidnapping.

I meant it sarcastically, I am no fan of FARC's methods.
