HEBRON, West Bank (Reuters) - Israeli soldiers shot dead a Palestinian man who arrived at an army checkpoint south of the West Bank city of Hebron carrying a knife, Palestinian officials and Israeli medics said on Saturday.

Soldiers manning the checkpoint opened fire on Khalil al-Za'ari, 28, late on Friday after he ignored calls to drop his knife, an army spokeswoman said.
The man died on his way to a hospital in Israel, Israeli medics said.

It's really a no brainer. Pull a knife on a soldier with a rifle, refuse to drop the knife, expect to be shot. What'd you expect the soldier to do, stand there and be stabbed?

How unfortunate that the art of the knout is lost.

Now imagine this - your relative gets killed at the Israeli check point just because he has a knife.
Israel OCCUPIED the land of Palestinian people, who now cannot move freely ON THEIR LAND but instead they have to go through some check points which have been set up by the occupiers, and at these check points the occupiers kill you for carrying a knife.

This, in case some one doesn't know is a WAR CRIME. Check the Geneva Convention.

He wasn't killed just for carrying a knife. He was killed because he had the knife in his hand and he refused the command to drop it. At that point the soldier would have come to the very reasonable and rational conclusion that the offender was a clear and imminent threat to his safety and acted accordingly, in this case shooting him. It has nothing to do with politics and everything to do with self defense.

It's not a "war crime" to defend yourself against a threat.

The offender should have dropped the knife.
