We can argue about the history of the Israeli-Palestine conflict elsewhere. However in this thread I propose we minimalise the discussion of history and discuss on the desire we share, that is the desire for peace.


How do you think this can come about how do you propose this to move forward?

In that case i'll put in my two cents. Although i think it probably will never happen. I believe the only way to produce a long term peace is a secular one state solution, with a strong constitution (something i normally oppose) as to prevent tyranny of the majority. If two states are created one side will inevitably have complaints about the outcome, be it Israel or Palestine someone will get less than they want. Also if there are two states the Palestinians will never have the right to return. Another problem would be that both states will always look suspicously on the other, second guessing them, thus escalating tensions.

Now that is my basic argument against a two state solution out of the way. Now to make the case for a one state solution. Only by living on the same streets, attending the same schools, working in the same place will people come to trust, and who knows maybe even like one another. Such a state would mean that Israel would have to give up the right for any jew in the world to move to this state. There would have to an extensive release of all political prisoners. Those are just the basics. Of course there would have to be much more done and an extensive tit for tat of concessions.
