MEXICO, April 25 (RIA Novosti) - Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez criticized Washington on Friday after a U.S. aircraft carrier allegedly sailed close to the South American country border without permission.

"When Americans appear with their fleet - the George Washington - near our shores, then one must not forget, that this is happening at a time when, together with Brazil, we are establishing a defense council in South America," he told a public meeting.

"This century, we will bury the old U.S. empire and will live with the American people as brothers, as over 40 million U.S. citizens live on the edge of poverty," the president said.

He also said that Latin America had entered a new era, marked by the creation of a bloc of leftist governments, which included Argentina, Bolivia, Cuba, Venezuela, Ecuador, Nicaragua, Chile and Brazil.
The USS George Washington and the George Washington Carrier Strike Group arrived in Brazil April 22 to participate in Unitas 49-08 naval exercises.

Unitas is 49-year-old annual exercise which aims to train participating countries' navies to operate as part of a multinational force employing a variety of maritime scenarios. Argentina and Brazil are also taking part in the naval exercise with Chile and Ecuador acting as observers.

The USS George Washington left its home port of Norfolk in the U.S. en route to its eventual new home in Yokosuka in Japan, where it will replace the USS Kitty Hawk.

The USS George Washington's flight deck is 4.5 acres and has a crew of up to 6,000.

Venezuela to buy Russian submarines, air defense systems

Venezuela is planning to procure up to 10 modern diesel submarines and several Tor-M1 air defense missile complexes from Russia, a source at a Russian think tank said Monday.

Russian business daily Kommersant said last week that during his visit to Russia, Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez could finalize a deal to purchase Russian diesel submarines for the Venezuelan Navy. The contract reportedly is for the supply of five Project 636 Kilo-class diesel submarines and four state-of-the-art Project 677 Amur submarines.

Burying the United States Empire and burying the United States are two entirely separate things.

Unfortunately for you, Chavez is only expressing a desire to do the first, wishing to live as brothers with the United States, which does not jive with your irrational hatred of the United States.

The title is perhaps misleading.

None the less I would point out that nothing Hugo Chavez said is anti American, not one bit. To live as "brothers" is not anti American, it is pro American.

Another point is that Chavez said "we" will bury the US empire, not "I" will bury the US empire. The collective "we" could be taken to mean many things. I don't for one minute think he means Venezuela, not even Latin America. Chavez beliece in internationalist solidarity and i suspect in "we" he includes the American people.

They talk about the failure of socialism but where is the success of capitalism in Africa, Asia and Latin America?

Maybe the title needs to be corrected, since it is VERY misleading. If a member feels that "bury the U.S" is not an anti-American statement, then the true colors are shining through. Once again, it shows support for bringing harm to Americans.

The title is the same as it is in the article.

Besides, I asked TO EXPLAIN TO MOD MICHAEL the difference between America and American Empire and NOT rush to ask me about the title.
What is important here is what HUGO CHAVEZ has said and not the title of a thread or an article.
