Default Israeli Incursion in South Lebanon, Violation of Sovereignty

They are doing it while Jimmy Carter is still in the Midle East.
They don't want peace. They are agents provocateurs.

15/04/2008

A new violation of Lebanese sovereignty was committed by Israel on Sunday evening with Israeli soldiers making a brief incursion into Lebanon near the occupied Shebaa Farms territory.

The Lebanese army issued a statement on Monday, saying that "a group of five Israeli soldiers entered 150 meters inside the area of Al-Shaal, east of Kfar Shouba (in southeastern Lebanon)."
The statement called the move a "blatant and repeated breach of Lebanese sovereignty," noting that the soldiers remained in the area for 10 minutes before leaving.

Yasmina Bouziane, spokeswoman for the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), said that the UN was investigating the incident.

"A joint UNIFIL-Lebanese army investigation team was sent east of Kfar Shouba to look into the circumstances of an alleged Israeli army Force Blue line violation," Bouziane said, referring to the demarcation line between Lebanon and Occupied Palestine. "The investigation is still ongoing and UNIFIL is in touch with both parties to clarify the matter," she added.

Actions like this are done for a reason, the reason being to provoke Hezbollah. They love it when there is violence against Israel. Then they can start playing the innocent victim standing up for itself. They are asking for trouble.

Maybe they were trying to get caught again like last time to give Israel another excuse to bomb the Lebanese to smithereens. Again....

The war with Lebanon was sparked by Hezbollah's kidnapping of an Israeli soldier on Israeli territory. Seems its handy for a neighbouring country to enter a sovereign nation and kidnap one of its soldiers for no reason. An Act of War.
Talk about trying to incite violence. It was done by the Palestinians in Gaza as well.
CNN:

"Israel quickly blamed the Lebanese government for the raid -- and charged it with the soldiers' safe release
It is the second time in three weeks that an Israeli soldier has been abducted. Concerns abound that the situation on Israel's northern border will escalate to the level it has reached in Gaza, where the IDF launched an ongoing offensive June 28 after the abduction of Army Cpl. Gilad Shalit three days prior. "

You always leave out the cause of the reaction....convenient to tell half the story isn't it?

We have been over this a thousand times. Why was the soldier kidnapped ? Because Israel still occupied part of Lebanon and there had been long running conflicts beforehand.

But that is not the issue here. The issue is the Israeli violation of Lebanese sovereignty, which provokes further actions against them, which they will then in turn use as "justification" for further strikes against Lebanon.

As Lebanon continues to be pounded by Israeli bombs and munitions, the justification for Israel's invasion is treading on very thin ice. It has become general knowledge that it was Hezbollah guerillas that first kidnapped two IDF soldiers inside Israel on July 12, prompting an immediate and violent response from the Israeli government, which insists it is acting in the interest of national defense. Israeli forces have gone on to kill over 370 innocent Lebanese civilians (compared to 34 killed on Israel's side) while displacing hundreds of thousands more. But numerous reports from international and independent media, as well as the Associated Press, raise questions about Israel's official version of the events that sparked the conflict two weeks ago.

The original story, as most media tell it, goes something like this: Hezbollah attacked an Israeli border patrol station, killing six and taking two soldiers hostage. The incident happened on the Lebanese/Israel border in Israeli territory. The alternate version, as explained by several news outlets, tells a bit of a different tale: These sources contend that Israel sent a commando force into southern Lebanon and was subsequently attacked by Hezbollah near the village of Aitaa al-Chaab, well inside Lebanon's southern territory. It was at this point that an Israel tank was struck by Hezbollah fighters, which resulted in the capture of two Israeli soldiers and the death of six.

As the AFP reported, "According to the Lebanese police force, the two Israeli soldiers were captured in Lebanese territory, in the area of Aitaa al-Chaab, near to the border with Israel, where an Israeli unit had penetrated in middle of morning." And the French news site www.VoltaireNet.org reiterated the same account on June 18, "In a deliberated way, [Israel] sent a commando in the Lebanese back-country to Aitaa al-Chaab. It was attacked by Hezbollah, taking two prisoners."

The Associated Press departed from the official version as well. "The militant group Hezbollah captured two Israeli soldiers during clashes Wednesday across the border in southern Lebanon, prompting a swift reaction from Israel, which sent ground forces into its neighbor to look for them," reported Joseph Panossian for AP on July 12. "The forces were trying to keep the soldiers' captors from moving them deeper into Lebanon, Israeli government officials said on condition of anonymity."

And the Hindustan Times on July 12 conveyed a similar account:

"The Lebanese Shi'ite Hezbollah movement announced on Wednesday that its guerrillas have captured two Israeli soldiers in southern Lebanon. 'Implementing our promise to free Arab prisoners in Israeli jails, our strugglers have captured two Israeli soldiers in southern Lebanon,' a statement by Hezbollah said. 'The two soldiers have already been moved to a safe place,' it added. The Lebanese police said that the two soldiers were captured as they 'infiltrated' into the town of Aitaa al-Chaab inside the Lebanese border."

Whether factual or not, these alternative accounts should at the very least raise serious questions as to Israel's motives and rationale for bombarding Lebanon.

MSNBC online first reported that Hezbollah had captured Israeli soldiers "inside" Lebanon, only to change their story hours later after the Israeli government gave an official statement to the contrary.

A report from The National Council of Arab Americans, based in Lebanon, also raised suspicion that Israel's official story did not hold water and noted that Israel had yet to recover the tank that was demolished during the initial attack in question.

"The Israelis so far have not been able to enter Aitaa al-Chaab to recover the tank that was exploded by Hezbollah and the bodies of the soldiers that were killed in the original operation (this is a main indication that the operation did take place on Lebanese soil, not that in my opinion it would ever be an illegitimate operation, but still the media has been saying that it was inside 'Israel' thus an aggression first started by Hezbollah)."

Before independent observers could organize an investigation of the incident, Israel had already mounted a grisly offensive against Lebanese infrastructure and civilians, bombing Beirut's international airport, along with numerous highways and communication portals. Israel didn't need the truth of the matter to play out before it invaded Lebanon. As with the United States' illegitimate invasion of Iraq, Israel just needed the proper media cover to wage a war with no genuine moral impetus.

So a handful of Israeli soldiers entered a few yards into Lebanese territory and left after ten minutes having caused no harm. So what?

Isn't this what your Russian masters do constantly when they fly into foreign air space with their military aircraft, leaving within minutes.

I am new here, but it hasn't taken long to realise precisely what your agenda in visiting this forum is.

Why would Israel want to attack Lebanon?
On the other hand, Hezbollah is following its terrorist pattern.
Believe what you want.... of course..that Israel is "always" the aggressor...

Kidnapped in Lebanon? I think not.

Joshua Frank did an important job in bringing two competing stories about the Israeli soldiers kidnapped by Hizbollah: the main-stream story which says they were abducted on the Israeli side of the border, and the alternative claim that the soldiers were captured by Hizbollah on Lebanese soil. I am afraid, however, that this is one of these rare cases in which the main-stream (and Israeli) version is the credible one. Note that the Hizbollah itself, so it seems, never claimed the alternative story was true: it’s not Israel’s words versus Hizbollah’s, but the general media versus unclear sources. Let me try to show why.

(1) As for the main-stream story, Frank writes: “Hezbollah attacked an Israeli border patrol station, killing six and taking two soldiers hostage. The incident happened on the Lebanese/Israel border in Israeli territory.”

-Not quite. The precise story is: Hezbollah attacked an Israeli border patrol station, killing three and taking two soldiers hostage. The incident happened on the Lebanese/Israel border in Israeli territory. Following the kidnap, an Israeli tank crossed the border into Lebanon and was destroyed, in which four soldiers were killed, bringing the number of casualties to seven. Some of the confusion seems to have been caused by these two separate events, which are sometimes conflated in the reports.

(2) As for the alternative story, Frank writes: “Israel sent a commando force into southern Lebanon and was subsequently attacked by Hezbollah near the village of Aitaa al-Chaab, well inside Lebanon’s southern territory. It was at this point that an Israeli tank was struck by Hezbollah fighters, which resulted in the capture of two Israeli soldiers and the death of six.”
-However, an Israeli tank of the kind used (Merkava) is normally manned by 4 soldiers, not by six or eight.

Now let’s check the sources for the alternative version, one by one:

(3) The AFP report: “According to the Lebanese police force, the two Israeli soldiers were captured in Lebanese territory.”

-But the same report contains yet another significant line: “Hezbollah did not specify the place of capture of the two soldiers”. Remember the actual organ in power in south Lebanon is Hizbollah, not the Lebanese police.

(4) The French news site Voltaire Network “In a deliberated way, [Israel] sent a commando in the Lebanese back-country to Aitaa al-Chaab. It was attacked by Hezbollah, taking two prisoners.”

-However, this site says that this report is based not on its regular Middle-East reporter, but “grâce aux nombreux contacts dont il dispose sur place” – i.e., anonymous sources.
(5) The Associated Press reported that “The militant group Hezbollah captured two Israeli soldiers during clashes Wednesday across the border in southern Lebanon”.

-This ambiguous or rather contrdictory formulation can clearly mean that the soldiers were captured across the border on Israeli soil; “southern Lebanon” may be used as a broad geographic term.

(6) The Hindustan Times writes: “The Lebanese Shi’ite Hezbollah movement announced on Wednesday that its guerrillas have captured two Israeli soldiers in southern Lebanon .[…] The Lebanese police said that the two soldiers were captured as they ‘infiltrated’ into the town of Aitaa al-Chaab inside the Lebanese border.”
-This could sound pretty good if the Hindustan Times was responsible for this item. But this is not the case. Hindustan Times has taken the item from the Indo-Asian News Service. The Indo-Asian News Service, in turn, has taken it from DPA, the German news agency. However, the DPA report in German, posted immedialy after the kidnap (even before the tank incident) said the two soldiers had been abducted, according to the Hizbollah announcement, „from the border area“ („aus dem Grenzgebiet“).

(7) The last source quoted is “a report from The National Council of Arab Americans, based in Lebanon”. However, this “report” is no more than a blog message posted by an anonymous “Zeina”, who was seeking shelter somewhere in Lebanon and was clearly informed second-hand.

===
In short, there seems to be no real evidence for the so-called alternative story, especially not in view of the very extensive account and pictures released in Israel for the original version, i.e. that the two soldiers were abducted across the border just inside Israel.
