Well, they're kind of busy at the moment.

I'm not even sure that such a militarization would be legal anyway. It would certainly be morally reprehensible, based on your description.

Clearly, but as an opponent of the current war, I'd suggest a timely removal of US troops from Iraq and redeployment in Texas, Arizona, New Mexico, and California.

How would protecting the territorial integrity of the US NOT be a legal function of the military? So long as they weren't policing (that's why we have border patrol), it'd be absolutely fine.

How so? You warn them first, and if they keep coming, they are attempting to enter the US illegally and if successful, will either promote a culture of near slavery through their participation in such a culture, or promote a culture of violence and lethargy, both of which are detrimental to the national security and harmony of the United States.

I just have a problem with shooting unarmed impoverished people seeking only to improve their lives and that of their families.

But don't mind me, I'm just a bleeding heart.

Although I disagree with the idea of shooting unarmed, desperate people, bringing our military home and posting them along our own borders to prevent the invasion IS a valid use of the military. Fighting in other countries is not.

Coyote's got a point. In fact, knowing several ranchers down by the border, I am amazed by their restraint not to commit wholesale slaughter, already.

Overall, I think I agree that it'd be better having the troops out of Iraq and actually defending our border.

DL, I am rather torn on this issue, personally. I can't blame Mexicans one bit for wanting to improve their lives. They come here, and work like dogs for low pay, constantly running the risk of deportation.

On the other hand......

Whatever one's take, clearly the situation is reaching critical mass.

Getting back to the topic of the thread, the latest state to pass a tough on the scumbag employers of illegals sanction law is South Carolina. It may be the toughest employers of illegals sanctions law passed by a state to date. And yes, it does require MANDATORY E-VERIFICATION of the legal status of an employee, so it will be very effective.

I think that we are beginning to see an exodus of illegals from South Carolina. Unfortunately, a lot of the illegals are moving to North Carolina, my state, which doesn't have a tough on the employers of illegals sanction law, yet.
