We already have a process for legal immigration.

Look, these guys are getting in anyway. Why not give them a wide open avenue to do so with a bit of dignity and legitimacy so they can cash in on the full gamut of American rights and they don't become an exploited minority and can get out from under the thumb of the Hispanic crime bosses of the southwest? Let's start telling other nations to give us their tired and poor again, since that's the ideal this nation was founded on.

They're breaking the law: they're not entitled to dignity and legitimacy. If they want to emigrate to the United States, let them follow the legal immigration process already in place.

Oh, and if they do break immigration laws? Hunt 'em down, round 'em up and deport them. As long as there's a free, uncluttered path to legitimate immigration there should not be any tolerance of illegal immigration -- if we really need that many people coming in every year for the economy's sake then amend the quotas so we can do it legally rather than just turning a blind eye. That's better and smarter for everyone.

I think quotas based on nationality should be eliminated anyway. However, I have no problem with requiring certain minimum requirements for legal entry - just as other countries have. Among them would include having a job lined up and, as is becoming increasingly the case in Asia, a four-year college degree.

A panda walks into a cafe. He orders a sandwich, eats it, then draws a gun and fires two shots in the air.
"Why?" asks the confused waiter, as the panda makes toward the exit. The panda produces a badly punctuated wildlife manual and tosses it over his shoulder.
"I'm a panda," he says at the door. "Look it up."
The waiter turns to the relevant entry and, sure enough, finds an explanation.
"Panda. Large black-and-white bear-like mammal, native to China. Eats, shoots and leaves."
