The only scenario where I could see the stimulus package going to illegals as being acceptable is if they took the money and spent it in America, which is the whole idea behind the plan in the first place. However, if they take the money and send it back to Mexico, well then, it would just be stupid. I see no problem with giving the stimulus package to legal immigrants who pay taxes. Of coarse, I have reservations about the package to begin with. It is very Keynesian, which isn't necessarily bad, but by definition, not concerned with long term stability.

I saw this topic at Political Wrinkles with an excellent reply about the three categories of LEGAL temporary immigrants for getting green cards. They pay income taxes. The term "illegal" is being purposely used here by Fox to inflame the public. They are legal so the term needs to get dropped.

Fox News has learned that illegal immigrants are eligible for $300 to $600 rebates promised in the bipartisan, economic stimulus package. The plan was approved by an overwhelming supermajority today on the House floor.
Some illegal immigrants pay taxes. They may not be U.S. citizens. But they are assigned Individual Taxpayer Indentification Number (ITIN) which enables them to file. Thus, if they file taxes, they are eligible for a rebate check.
For these purposes, illegal immigrants are those who quality as "Resident Aliens" are eligible. Resident aliens are those who spend a "substantial" amount of time in the U.S. and have not been deported.
Rep. Tom Tancredo (R-CO) said that the bill will certainly stimulate "more illegal immigration."
Opponents of the illegal immigrant eligibility provision point out that the House considered the bill under "suspension of the rules." Suspension provisions allow the House to expedite bills and don't open them up to the usual amending process.


IF THEY CAN FIND THEM TO GIVE THEM THEIR "TAX REBATE" CHECK...THEY CAN FIND THEM TO DEPORT THEM, AND THEN PUNISH THEIR EMPLOYERS!!!!


What does one except from a corrupt and broken government. Even the plan to help Americans is a promotion for what they all want (Big Business) support of illegals. And as it is written won't cover the many American in need of the puny help offered. But be sure many of the illegals will get paper work and PO Boxes or address so they collect the $1,200.00 plus the extra for the children.
But the Americans in need will be passed over.
Our broken government will waste another couple billion just to support the illegals and big business desire to have them here. Shame on all of the Congress and Senate. And "F" the rest of this government and it's policies that has put the middle class on the road to ruin.

I'm seriously thinking about moving out of Alabama. Between sentiments like this and Mike Huckabee's fundies voting for him to win my state I think I'd be better off living some place a little more reasonable. I am so embarrassed by the people who live in Alabama.

Was it actually reported on Fox that way, or was it only discussed as a possible article in internal email?
Just wondering, I think taxpayers would qualify for the "stimulus" check, immigrant (legal) or citizen.
