I like this post. It makes a lot of sense. I'm a big believer in "The Great Flood" being caused by a comet or asteroid hit. And a big enough one would send a seismic wave around the whole planet and sink cities.

Default "Impacts"

" ....such impacts can generate chains of earthquakes an order of magnitude greater than the most powerfull natural terrestrial type...." We made a God out of bit of nasty cosmic waste. Today, various national leaders use that God to justify savagery towards various weaker breatheren nations. A catastrophe from A to Z.

I like this too. However, if an asteroid did do it, where is the smoking gun? Or rather where is the crater? The one for the dinosaurs has been found and that one is old -- around 65 million years. A more recent one would be more apparent. Another scenario of catastrophe uses Earth Crust Displacement Theory: Crustal Displacement - Hapgood - Crystalinks whereby the crust of the Earth moves along over the mantle from time to time. If it happened you would get massive flooding as displaced water covers the continents.

And some theorize that Atlantis is hidden under the ice sheet of Antarctica. Which may be supported in part by a strange piece of evidence: The Piri Reis Map World Mysteries - Strange Artifacts - Piri Reis Map This map, drawn in 1513, supposedly comes from or is a reprint of older maps thousands of years in age and shows the coast of Antarctica before being covered in ice to a fair degree of accuracy along with the coast of South America.

Default Smoking Gun?

'Google search: Burckle Crater / Indian Ocean. The nutties have already got a hold of the thing so there are quite a few of the usuall crazies. Look for 'Dallas Abbot' ....New York Times article. Therein is also mentioned the idea that the object which hit broke into three parts. Burckle Crater itself is an eight mile wide crater, a little over ten thousand feet down under the Indian Ocean off the Southern tip of Africa.

It could have been something less spectacular, like the Asian Christmas tsunami.
Or perhaps it was built in an ill-considered location, like New Orleans.

Default Putting Together An Ancient Big Picture

If one studies the regional apocalyptic mythologies one notes certain variations in the descriptions of destructive elements. If one compares those myths to computer simulations showing all impact related phenomenon over distances one begins to understand the variations. An impact such a Burckle by itself would have sent waves of quakes through earths mantle...water is only part of the mythos..

A Chinese variant of the myth recounts that ten generations were required to drain the salt water out of the mountains. Tibet has a virsion. It wasn't one city or nation, it was all those peoples who inhabited that region out to Siberia and China. And it was no little wave but multiple waves
