Here is America's Creed (any system of principles or beliefs) . What does it mean to you, if anything? Do you feel you have a "duty" to America to carry out - or do you feel you have better things to do?
The American's Creed by William Tyler Page I believe in the United States of America as a government of the people, by the people, for the people; whose just powers are derived from the consent of the governed, a democracy in a republic, a sovereign Nation of many sovereign States; a perfect union, one and inseparable; established upon those principles of freedom, equality, justice, and humanity for which American patriots sacrificed their lives and fortunes. I therefore I believe it is my duty to my country to love it, to support its Constitution, to obey its laws, to respect its flag, and to defend it against all enemies. –Written 1917, accepted by the United States House of Representatives on April 3, 1918. The American's Creed

Being foreign born, I feel more of a duty to this country than many that are native born. It is also my duty to do my part in contributing to the direction this nation is headed. I cannot just enjoy the freedom's that this country gives us, brought by the sacrifice of those that gave their lives in it's defense, without giving back what I can. Those that do not feel any allegiance to this country have the right not to do so, but I choose to appreciate what this country offers me.
Many foreign born members in society talk bad about this country, yet they are leaches that get financial aid, that get welfare, that take advantage of EVERY freebie this country has to offer while showing NO appreciation. Instead they complain about how bad it is. I am not one of those. |

I don't have any liking for such pledges, creeds, or oaths, either.

I assume that you are an American. If so, are you saying that you have no loyalty to this country? I am not talking about the "insipid, chest-pounding pablum" kind, but actual allegience to the United States. If yes, why? If not, why not? |
