Michael Collins(Micheál Ó'Coleáin)


Collins fought and brought down the British adminstration in Ireland. He then negiatiated the Anglo-Irish treaty. His war was based on gathering inteligance, assinations(Collins IRA never once had a bombing campaign). He set up units called Flying Columns which were pivotal in the Tan War. He also formed an assination squad called the 12 Apostles whom assinated agents of the crown.

Mao and the 3,000 mile retreat has to rank up there with the greatest guerilla military feats of all time.

Absolutely. N. Vietnamese Gen. Giap considered Mao's teachings on warfare to be so critical that all of his officers were required to read Mao's treatise on guerilla warfare.

While I have a lot of respect for Ernesto Guevara, he was only moderately successful in the field...

George Washington was a pretty good general, and the independence fighters in the American war for independence often used guerrilla tactics, did they not?

Subcomandante Marcos also seems to know what he is doing.

People in the West usually know very little about the guerilla warfare and tactics used by the Prophet Muhammad in his long war between Mecca and Medina. But there were several military innovations utilized to great advantage by his out numbered and badly equiped forces.
