As for Fidel being a maniac, that is nonsense to say the least. If the "democrats" in the developed world nevermind the third world had made half the social achievements he has, the world would not be in the mess it is. If not for Fidel Cuba would not have more doctors per capita than anywhere else in the world. They wouldn't have done more than any other state in eradicating racism (that is Nelson Mandela's view, not mine). Every person in Cuba would not have the right to free education up to university level, they would not have a lower infant mortality rate than the US, longer life expectancy than in Scotland. For a third world country the achievements of te revolution are nothing short of breathtaking.

Sr. de la Serna is a truly admirable man, as much for his action as for his beliefs and desires for a better reality in Latin America.
True, he is an iconic figure all over the world and he DID go astray when he advocated violence as a method for any revolution simply because he allowed the 'revolution' to abandon the moral high-ground and accept as valid the methods of the 'reacionaries' on the political right. but the one thing I do admire about 'Che', regardless of all his many shortcomings, is that he had the courage of his convictions and put his life on the line to fight for what he believed to be right. As one of the few people on this forum who has actually been to the regions where he struggled and seen something akin to what he was fighting for and against, I have seen exactly why he believed what he did and why he is still viewed as one of the greatest latinoamericanos in all of the region's history. still though, some of the things he did and advocated are inexcusable and cannot be overlooked if we are to honestly examine his actions and his legacy.

Murderer maybe. Maniac most certainly not.
Even if he was a murderer, I refer you to my previous post: while Ernesto Guevara might have been a murderer, El Che is a symbol of liberation and equality, end point. Quote:

My definition is pretty straightforward - killing a human being, unlawfully and with the required mental intent and without a defence of necessity.
