Not all the founding fathers were slave owners.
John Adams was very much against slavery. It was mostly the Southern Founding fathers that were slave owners. Nor were they all rich. |

OK. So?
The institution of slavery had been made legal by the founding fathers. Slavery is a social-economic system under which certain persons — known as slaves — are deprived of personal freedom and compelled to perform labour or services. The term includes the status or condition of those persons who are treated as the property of another person, household, company, corporation or government. This is referred to as "chattel slavery". Slaves are held against their will from the time of their capture, purchase, or birth, and are deprived of the right to leave, to refuse to work, or to receive compensation in return for their labor. As such, slavery is one form of unfree labor. Slavery - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia |

So you cant say all the founding fathers supported slavery.
I choose John Adams becuase he was always against slavery. What they did was choose to put off the issue becuase they wouldnt have been able to gain freedom for the nation otherwise. Many people died in this country so that we could end slavery. |

Back then, most people were racist. Your ancestors were probably racist. Mine were probably racist. I'm not talking about just in America, either. Even in countries where slavery was illegal, blacks were still second-class citizens. The Russians, whom you seem to think so perfect (are you a Russo-supremacist?), were racist against Jews (remember the pogroms?) and Arabs almost until the formation of the USSR. That's one good thing the USSR did; abolish private ownership of slaves. Stalin seemed to consider state ownership of slaves good, though.
Just another attempt to bash America. **** you too.

I think in thsi context you are right Phae, about the purpose of the post, but if Malcom X was right what does it say about America?

The point is this - the institution of slavery had been made legal by the founding fathers. The slaves had been brought to America BEFORE the founding fathers were born. When the founding fathers wrote the laws of a country they made slavery legal. They saw no problem with that issue. |
