An unlikely source of support for alternative energy, Boone Pickens is raising eyebrows with his new support for renewable energy sources. M
Billionaire Oil Man Boone Pickens Investing in Wind Energy Go to this link to read the full article: Texas oilman T. Boone Pickens wants to supplant oil with wind - USATODAY.com By Dan Reed, USA TODAY SWEETWATER, Texas — Get ready, America, T. Boone Pickens is coming to your living room. The legendary Texas oilman, corporate raider, shareholder-rights crusader, philanthropist and deep-pocketed moneyman for conservative politicians and causes, wants to drive the USA's political and economic agenda. "We're paying $700 billion a year for foreign oil. It's breaking us as a nation, and I want to elevate that question to the presidential debate, to make it the No. 1 issue of the campaign this year," Pickens says. Today, Pickens will take the wraps off what he's calling the Pickens Plan for cutting the USA's demand for foreign oil by more than a third in less than a decade. To promote it, he is bankrolling what his aides say will be the biggest public policy ad campaign ever. The website, pickensplan.com, goes live today. Jay Rosser, Pickens' ever-present public relations man, promises that Pickens' face will be seen on Americans' televisions this fall almost as frequently as John McCain's and Barack Obama's. "Neither presidential candidate is talking about solving the oil problem. So we're going to make 'em talk about it," Pickens says. |

Texas oil tycoon plans largest wind farm
2,000 turbines over 200,000 acres at cost that could reach $6 billion Go to this link to read the entire article: Oil tycoon plans largest wind farm - Green Machines - MSNBC.com LUBBOCK, Texas - Billionaire T. Boone Pickens is planning to cash in on the wind energy boom by building the world's largest wind farm in West Texas. The oil tycoon wants to install large wind turbines in parts of four Panhandle counties in a project that would produce up to 4,000 megawatts of electricity. If Pickens' company, Mesa Power LP, does build the wind farm it would be the largest in the world, American Wind Energy Association spokeswoman Susan Williams Sloan said. It would generate more than five times the 735 megawatts produced at the present largest wind farm near Abilene. One megawatt is enough to power 250 homes in Texas, Sloan said. 2010 start eyed Pickens' proposal, which would cost as much as $6 billion, would fall just short of nearly doubling what Texas had at the end of 2006, when wind power totaled about 2,700 megawatts, she said. |

Michael, you don't get it do you?
Wind energy is nowhere near as viable an option as nuclear, and in no way addresses the nature of transportation energy. Nuclear however can be built anywhere (not just the Central US), generates nearly unlimited power without emissions, and produces enough energy to reasonably and affordably power electric cars that eliminate cumbustible fuels altogether. Pickens and GE are STUCK with a dying technology, and so they're making lots of waves and lobbying Congress so that they can make money on a BAD investment. If Wind was viable, Pickens wouldn't need to spend his own money promoting it. He's selling snake-oil.

There is no such thing as renewable energy, there is a finite amount of energy in the universe and all energy is lost through entropy.
