Hummmm some stats.
$45 trillion needed to combat warming By JOSEPH COLEMAN, Associated Press Writer Fri Jun 6, 7:06 AM ET $45 trillion needed to combat warming - Yahoo! News TOKYO - The world needs to invest $45 trillion in energy in coming decades, build some 1,400 nuclear power plants and vastly expand wind power in order to halve greenhouse gas emissions by 2050, according to an energy study released Friday. The report by the Paris-based International Energy Agency envisions a "energy revolution" that would greatly reduce the world's dependence on fossil fuels while maintaining steady economic growth. "Meeting this target of 50 percent cut in emissions represents a formidable challenge, and we would require immediate policy action and technological transition on an unprecedented scale," IEA Executive Director Nobuo Tanaka said. A U.N.-network of scientists concluded last year that emissions have to be cut by at least half by 2050 to avoid an increase in world temperatures of between 3.6 and 4.2 degrees above pre-18th century levels.

So basically, we need to do something we are never going to do.
That's great. Might as well bend over and take it. Too many economic problems brewing, too much apathy, and too much freedom wank.

I would be content with solar panels that would allow me to plug in my vehicle to become independent of oil corporations and power plants.
Nuclear eneregy is being pushed by the billionaire energy industry because it is something they can monopolize. It is NOT the best option.

It's being pushed because it provides abundant, clean energy, you mean. You can't reduce it to some conspiracy. It's just better. Regardless, it's too late anyway. It's to much money, no one will fund it, and we don't have enough time. Solar panels being a viable solution to the problem is just pure fantasy.

I would be laughing if it weren't so tragic. There is a way to mitigate the problem somewhat, and we could have fixed it decades ago, but there was (and is) just no political and a large group of people who oppose any collective action on the grounds that it might restrict their freedom.
You, and everyone else, is screwed, really. Some just don't get it yet. It hasn't registered what they've done. It will. Eventually.

It is being pushed because billionaire energy corporations and monopolize nuclear industry and we would be totally dependent on them, no matter what the cost.
Yucca Mountain is tied up in court with lawsuits and there is evidence of earthquake faults through that area. Until there is a clear answer to waste, nuke energy needs to be on hold.

It's being pushed because it's a useful, clean source of energy, and they know they can profit off of it. The fact we need to go through all this red tape the "environmental" advocates put up is one reason why we are so far behind in the progress we ought to have had.
We should have had a full nuclear programme decades ago, but thanks to the stupid environmental rules, we're facing both Global Warming and Peak Oil completely unprepared. Meanwhile, you and others want some magical 100% perfect solution before you will use nuclear. I listed several ways waste can be dealt with. Yea. Keep putting it on hold. We've been doing that for decades. The more time we waste, the less ability we have to mitigate catastrophic problems associated with global warming and peak oil. On one hand, we can't use the government to solve the problem because of the environmental wackos who hate nuclear, and on the other hand, we have the the Libertarian freedom wankers who don't want public spending. When their powers of obstruction combine, we get the more annoying twin of Capitan Planet. Wait to you see how much suffering you're going to have. Then you will be begging us to make nuke plants.
