As would we all, but we aren't there yet.

Yes, it is the best option......for the near future. Nuclear power keeps ships at sea indefinitely (yes, indefinitely), and the ones already in existence have almost no negative impact on the environment. If you have an electric car (which requires an engine capable of similar horsepower to a cumbustion engine) and charge it on your nuclear power plant-powered home, you're off petroleum as a fuel source. Then of course we just need an alternative to plastic.

Sadly, nuclear power won't be able to do much. People have waited to long, and there's far too much obstructionism going on from all fronts and different ideologies. It takes to long and is too costly precisely because of all the bullshi*t red tape you have to go through.

In order to stave off problems of Peak Oil, we would need to construct far too many plants and then overhaul the entire infrastructure to accommodate it. It's practically impossible.

1400 world-wide to make a significant enough dent in global warming.

There's no way to fix the problem now. We're so busy debating this nonsense in "court" with environmentalists that we won't see progress for decades. Once the economy collapses (and it will relatively soon), not much is going to get done.

We need a vast public works campaign and pro-nuclear propaganda.
