The Energy Storage System (ESS)

When we set out to build a high-performance electric car, the biggest challenge was obvious from the start: the battery. Its complexities are clear: it's heavy, expensive, and offers limited power and range. Yet it has one quality that eclipses these disadvantages and motivated us to keep working tirelessly: it's clean.

The Tesla Roadster's battery pack — the car's "fuel tank" — represents the biggest innovation in the Tesla Roadster and is one of the largest and most advanced battery packs in the world. We've combined basic proven lithium ion battery technology with our own unique battery pack design to provide multiple layers of safety. It's light, durable, recyclable, and it is capable of delivering enough power to accelerate the Tesla Roadster from 0 to 60 mph in under 4 seconds. Meanwhile, the battery stores enough energy for the vehicle to travel about 220 miles without recharging, something no other production electric vehicle in history can claim.

wow... beautiful car... I poked around on the site a lil but was unable to find a price... any idea what it will go for? Will they be expanding the line to include sedans? as it sure didn't appear to have room for me to carry my cats, or groceries either, for that matter...

100k to 120k there about depending on options. They are planning on doing a 50k sedan and a 30k sedan at some point. I heard the last part on a podcast I listen to. He owns one of the roadsters (pre order) so he owns one of the very first Tesla's to be released. I am sure development and sales of the 50k and 30k cars will depend on how many of the roadsters they sell and how the venture capital is looking. I really do think that going towards electric cars is one of the best ideas to come around. And with companies building a car that accelerates similar to a Corvette C6 there is even less reason not to own one.

We are a very vain country. If a company starts building an electric car that is sexy then more people will pick it up. It is hard to look cool in a Prius.

We still have a long ways to go for Fusion power to get on the grid. We should be investing more time and resources into making solar and wind power all the more efficient. We are harnessing a small fraction of the suns rays at the current time so if we can come up with better solar cells power output will sky rocket.
Yeah, but imagine if we were spending $12 billion a day on fusion power instead of Iraq.

You wouldn't need to make it cold, per se, you would just need to keep the reaction under control without using more energy than the reaction puts out. Or you could make it cold.

The nearest one to me is at Princeton University.

I'm not asking for a research center but an actual working power plant.

Thirty years ago fusion power was 40 years in the future. What is the current prognosis?

For the average person unwilling to spill out six digits, hybrids are still the best economic and environmental option. I don't think we'll see wide scale use of such vehichles for another 10 years.

They rarely pay for themselves, unless you run an urban taxi service.

Not a research center, they have a working fusion plant. It just consumes more energy than it puts out.
