Living in Buffalo, being subject to the socialist policies of New York State, I can see how you'd be lead to believe that. Tell me, are you still paying the same electric rates as down-state, even though the stuff is made in your back yard and shipped way down to NYC?

I think what is around the corner is a vehicle the uses multiple sources of electricity generation to recharge in operation in combination with super effecient batteries. Lithium-Ion batteries are a step in the right direction. I am also hearing about nanotech batteries. Electricity from brakes is already being used in hybrids. However, they are also researching electricity from acceleration and heat. They have developed a co-generation system that runs everything except the engine off of the heat. That reduces the overall drain on batteries down to just the engine itself while the lights, radio, air conditioner etc... are all run off of this secondary system. The solar power film developed by NASA for deep space craft uses the full spectrum of light, so it can work on cloudy days. It is based on nanotechnology. Another option is the same thing in a paint on product. So you will be able to paint your house or car with this new stuff.

And how much would that paint job cost after someone keys your car?

Actually, I think we're paying more.

A panda walks into a cafe. He orders a sandwich, eats it, then draws a gun and fires two shots in the air.

"Why?" asks the confused waiter, as the panda makes toward the exit. The panda produces a badly punctuated wildlife manual and tosses it over his shoulder.

"I'm a panda," he says at the door. "Look it up."

The waiter turns to the relevant entry and, sure enough, finds an explanation.

"Panda. Large black-and-white bear-like mammal, native to China. Eats, shoots and leaves."

That's too bad man. All that cheap hydro power in that area- its a shame that you can’t benefit from it.

When I moved to Syracuse electricity was 7 cents per KWH, and where my in-laws lived downstate it was twice that. Then the down-state majority "equalized" the rates over a 3 or 4 year period, and by the time I left we were paying 11 cents. Niagara-Mohawk wrote us a letter saying that our costs were so high "because we have nuclear power".
When I moved to NC I was pleasantly surprised that our electric costs are about 8 cents. This was 10 years later. Duke Energy claims that our rates are so low "because we have nuclear power". That says a lot about the relative politics of the two states.
