It might as well be nationalized, it's regulated to hell and gone. And they are the cutting edge in safety. I don't know much about modern plants, but I do about the 1980's style heavy-water reactors. Foot-thick reinforced concrete containment dome with everything radioactive inside. The main coolant pipes are about a foot in diameter, made of A513 steel with inch thick walls and a lead coat. In the event of a meltdown, it only takes about 100 gallons a minute to quench the reaction - about what six garden hoses put out. They have dozens of instruments for measuring various conditions inside the containment and in the reactor, and they have instruments to monitor the instruments. They have dozens of failsafes, and failsafes for their failsafes. The odds of a catastrophic meltdown are close to 0 for this type of reactor. And this is 1980's state of the art. What we have now is bound to be better.

Of course it would be nationalized. It would be providing 99% of the world's energy and energy is something I consider to be an "essential, and therefore shouldn't be private.
