We don't have a choice.

We can either seperate our trash into bins, or toss it all into one big bin, and the Garbage Company separates it after they collect it. There's BIG DOLLARS in recycling. It's probably the biggest reason communities force it up their citizens.

As much as we can, our local authorities need to do more though, my family's biggest contribution towards helping the environment is that we have no car.

Here in the boondocks there is no garbage pickup so I don't recycle except for organic waste. I burn all paper trash (which mostly consists of bulk mail garbage) in a 55-gallon drum, and I make compost from my kitchen scraps which then goes into my organic vegetable and herb gardens.

Yes. Is everyone ready to do away with plastic? There is a lot of pressure here in California to do away with those water bottles and market plastic bags because they do not biodegrade for hundreds of years.

No, I love my plastic grocery bags. They are easier to carry and I keep them after to reuse them elsewhere.

I try to recycle everything that I have a place for. I recycle boxes, plastic, glass, plastic bags and newspaper. I only have to have my actual garbage picked up about once every 3 weeks.
