Default Your Voting Experience

So, what was it like when you went to vote today (or earlier for you people who did the early voting)?

My voting place is just down the block from where I live; so, I walked down, signed in and only had to wait behind two people. After I voted, I walked out and then decided to enjoy the unseasonably warm weather and walk to work.

Except for specifically choosing the Republican candidate for District Attorney (who is actually a Democrat), I voted various third party lines (which, here in New York State, doesn't mean much since most of the third parties here tend to adopt the Democrat or the Republican, e.g. a Democrat on the Conservative line or on the Working Families line, one candidate on all the party lines, a Republican on the Independent line).

"I'm a panda," he says at the door. "Look it up."

The waiter turns to the relevant entry and, sure enough, finds an explanation.

"Panda. Large black-and-white bear-like mammal, native to China. Eats, shoots and leaves."

I voted about two weeks ago and I enjoyed it, though I don't get to do the whole voting booth experience, which I would like to do sometime.

I took advantage of the early voting a couple of weeks ago. I walked right in with no wait and was glad to avoid the crowds that I know will be swamping the polling places today.

Our voting booths are 1930s technology but I like them. Going into the booth, closing the curtain, flipping the switches, and opening the curtain again is such a simple process and I never have to worry about "accidentally" punching a hole for Buchannan (like people whined about in Florida in 2000).

I voted early because I am an election official.

We have a 'poll watcher' who quickly learned that there was nothing to watch.....other than the paint dry.

We have had no incidents other than people coming to our polling local who should be elsewhere, and we tell them where to go. I even drew a map.

Smoothly here. I went early (polls open at 6 a.m. here, I got there about 7:30 and there was only one guy ahead of me at that time. Cars were starting to line up along the street by the time I left, though and there were about ten people in line when I cam out of the booth. We don't get many big lines. Small city with a enough districts that it doesn't seem to make a burden on the polling spots. .

I'm in NY state too, and we still have the lever machines here also. I'm glad. We have never had a problem with them that I know of, and I see no reason to change them, at least not here.

Ugly. Stood in line for 2 1/2 hours. The actual voting went fine.

Hmm. Planning to go after work (5:30) and the polls close here at 7. Hope there's time.
